I think that the plan B argument might have some merit but only if you ignore all the other evidence and issues. Also if you look at Watto's argument against Saints www.seriousaboutrl.com/ian-watson-says-st-helens-success-is-tainted-by-their-use-of-the-six-again-rule-80250/The description exactly fits both the problems many have with the rule and it's application and there are alot of teams who use this very well indeed. It's a rubbish strategy that only fans who like winning above all else could be happy with. I'll let you work out who they are! I think the top six and Rowley arguments don't marry well, as there have been far too many injuries to key folk. In the past I've been amongst the first to argue for a coach's sell by date and this is nowhere near that. I also wanted to say that when I've disagreed and called things silly, it was the ideas not the person/people involved. It is fine Russ an opinion, I have strong views too but do not want to see Paul Rowley go or expect it to happen. My frustration is the performance levels this year have dipped and our signings were poor bar Ollie and finally Stone is picking up. We are now in a position whereby we are gaining momentum off field. Our attendances thus far up to 5,500 this year is immense, our community investment, more commercial income and platinum dinning kicking off. All this positivity is very much contingent on the on field performance. I am going to ask JJR to write a piece called 'Finding Rowley Ball', if we can get some style back the last 3 homes games then we can truly build for next season. As for the Hudds game I believe we have a fully fit squad bar Wright, surely we've got to win this with the 2 week break. But lets see who the Ref is, my faith in our match officials is very much lacking these days.

Rowley's position can't be in question given the above, and injuries etc.
I think when people feel we're not as fluent as last year this can be explained by all the things that have happened.
The fortnight should make all the difference and I feel the number of players half-baked after injury caused problems in the last match. I don't think we'll win at Hudds but hope we do.
I really believe we'll be hammered with decisions from now till the end of the season so I think any wins will be a bonus and top six a bit of a miracle. But I love having a competitive side and wouldn't want to go back to the more reliable but equally boring grind we had to do in the past.

The fact that they haven't sanctioned Rowley (yet!), suggests to me that they know he's right. The fact that it's happened more than once and the refs have been the same ones turning up again and again, and because my eyes go skyward so often when I see who it is, I now look like a rennaisance religious painting!
I think sanctions will come in the form of penalties, six agains and fifty-fifties ..... even more than usual.
RUSS If that's the case, you have confirmed what I thought. Those running the game are gutless.

Those running the game have less room to manoeuvre than richer sports like footy, they walk a tight rope, partly because they don't have enough refs in the first place.

Huddersfield, away on a Friday night, Not sure why it couldn't have been played on Sunday, Hudfld Town, away at Middlesbrough on Saturday, Giants not playing until 27th August, We always take a big following on a Sunday, And no City or Utd game on Sunday to distract . Smacked wrists for all at Hdfld.

Actually I don't envy any ref with that one because every decision will be seen as controversial and if they think SRD's reaction was a bit OTT wait until the afters on this one!

Going to travel over tonight and our squad is only missing Wright and Gerrard. It looks like its going to be wet so I'd expect Rowley to play 4 Props, Rowleyball opportunities will be limited. We have pretty much a fully fit squad playing a team who played 5 days ago we have had two weeks rest. Hudds are vulnerable out wide rather than up the middle, we need to test their edges. I expect Rowley to have the squad ready and up for this game, their a very few reasons for non performance tonight, I expect a good showing. I hope our coach loads the bench with forwards, we run out of steam against Saints. We need to learn that using only 16 subs and putting backs on the bench we do not use is not going to win games, we need all 17 to impact games.

Tonight is a massive test, can Rowley get the best out of his players for a top 6 push. Are the players up for it, will we play to the conditions. We've had a break, hopefully it has been a blessing. The next two games are must wins in my opinion. I accept we are miles off last seasons performance levels both in terms of coaching and player performance. To finish strong is a what the fans expect taking each game at a time building confidence as we go. Hudds played a tough fixture five days ago (with 12 men for much of the game) we need to take the game to them from the start. We cannot have any excuses tonight we need to start winning again.
