The Change.Org e-petition from Salford Red Devils requesting that Salford City Council ensure the Rugby League Club remains in Salford (AJ Bell Stadium) and that the AJ Bell is a Community Stadium has now achieved well over 10,000 signatures making a massive statement to Salford City Council from the community.
Please refer to the petition to evidence the strength of feeling and refer to the comments.
www.change.org/p/salford-council-the-aj-bell-stadium-must-stay-for-the-community-of-salfordSurely now with the weight of public support (10,000 plus signatures) Salford City Council now need to listen to the citizens of Salford on the future AJ Bell Stadium, with the Salford Red Devils and the Salford community at the heart of any future decisions, our citizens strength of feeling must be represented in this process through collaboration and dialogue, it is much more to the public of Salford than the sale of an asset.
In terms of community engagement then our Club does all this:
In the past 12 months Salford Reds Devils Rugby League Club has had a profound effect on the local community, this is shown below:
The ‘Building the Future’ strategy was launched in March 2021 to work with schools and community clubs from across Greater Manchester to raise the profile of the Club and the sport of rugby league. This is driven through the Club and their Registered Charity – Salford Foundation who deliver sport, health and education based activities across Salford, Greater Manchester and beyond.
The initiatives aim is to increase participation of school children in rugby league, whilst providing a top-class pathway programme for boys and girls who aspire to play for Salford Red Devils. The strategy also works with schools to raise pupil achievement whilst promoting physical and mental health and wellbeing.
• Since the beginning of this 2022 academic year, Salford Red Devils have had five ‘Building the Future’ games. In total this year, we have welcomed over 3,500 children, teachers and coaches to watch the ‘Building the Future’ Betfred Super League games, many of whom were experiencing their first taste of live sport. Over 100 schools from across Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire have brought groups to the games.
• The Salford Red Devils Official School Partner programme has seen 95 schools sign up since its launch. Our Official Partner schools can access a range of programmes delivered by the Salford Red Devils Foundation.
• Throughout the 21/22 academic year, Salford Red Devils Foundation have continued to deliver its highly commended schools delivery programme throughout Greater Manchester. It has been their pleasure to deliver high quality provision of dance, karate, self defence, multi-sport, EYFS, gymnastics, athletics, football and, of course, rugby league, to Partner and Premium Partner schools, ensuring that the children get access to our elite level coaches and visits from Salford Red Devils first team players.
• Salford Red Devils Foundation has delivered over 60 rugby league festivals, with 68 individual schools taking part. Activities are open to boys and girls which has seen more than 2000 individual school children take part in rugby league activities this year alone.
• In addition to the Men’s First Team which is a Professional sports team, Salford Red Devils also has a Development Academy, a cup winning Women’s Team and two Physical Disability Rugby League team which shows the Club’s equality and inclusivity across it teams and its importance to our community.
We are asking that Salford City Council take into consideration the views of the Salford citizens who have signed the petition and outline how the AJ Bell Stadium can be used for the benefit of the City, Communities and Sports Clubs moving forward.
Will leave it with those who want to mail our MP's and Council leaders to do so, thanks everyone all we an do is raise this issue for the sake of our club.
