I've always repeated myself for years on this reffing subject. RL fans have a far too unhealthy obsession with referees for as long as I remember. The irony here is that the refs, regardless of ability, are probably the only part of RL that isn't bent in some way.
Good post by RUTB.

I think ref’s have a really tough job as most of the calls are judgment calls such as knock on v strip or offside v onside where most football decisions are clear , especially with VAR
Also all fans look through rose tinted specs BUT the obvious decisions such as Greenwood’s red and Gale’s yellow shouldn’t happen in a pro sport where people’s livelihoods are at stake

Two things could improve it massively though
Development of touch judges to play a bigger part; 6 eyes are far better than two Use of the video ref as in RU
Amazingly we see obvious things on televised matches, that the video ref sees and the ref misses. Why not tell him?

No game without a ref ,they are so very important. Daft to suggest that fans stay away because of refereeing. BUT,that doesn’t mean they should have a free pass. I’m more relaxed about the occasional accidental howler, like the mistaken identity. Of course it shouldn’t happen but this sort of thing will always happen. My gripe is with the style of refereeing and we have a direct comparison with the NRL. Whether it’s the schoolmaster hectoring at one end,or the chumminess at the other, they are centre stage and use obvious techniques to slow the game to their own pace. This isn’t an obsession with referees, just a forlorn hope that they pay more attention to the less strident style in the NRL

In fairness, touch judges have had their role increased in the last 10 years.
There is a serious shortage of refs. HINT

HINT If TJ's have a greater role now then I'm baffled as to what the feck they did 10 years ago! They're neither use not ornament TBH and I'm not normally one of the ref/official haters! We still need the standard of officiating to try and reach Union standards. They're far superior and in a sport which has way more technicalities as well when you think of all the scrum/ruck/maul related infringements.

Agar now whinging about the sentences given out to his team and that he has 3 more out after last weekend. Wonder who wanted the fixture change???
And I wonder what his view on Hurrel is about causing the sending offs. For me Hurrel was the cause and should have been off and banned. ( threatening behaviour)
He's becoming like Powell and Chester...is it something in the water in Yorkshire or are they all just miserable sods. I realise the answer as I wrote the last bit.

The best way to improve people's perception of referees is to take the big decisions away from them -- give teams a Captain's Challenge.

I assume Sky do SL on the cheap, so continuous replays as in RU or Captains Challenge as NRL might be too costly for our package.

I was looking for news about Solly and was on my way here for another reason when I began to think the match suspensions had only happened to Leeds and only Leeds had been affected by the judiciary.
So isn't it great the club gave the Roosters some kit after their problem everyone?

On the Subject of Leeds A former Rhino Danny Ward has just quit London Broncos as Coach, Always worth keeping in mind if Richard Marshall gets his P45 mid-season A youngish British coach who wouldn't cost a lot.
