I'm writing this before the end of the game. Disclaimer. I've watched this same Salford team for over thirty years. The same team that makes stupid errors, gives away field position like they are a charity, and look like thirteen individuals instead of a team. Literally, it's only the names that have changed. The team has been doing this shite for over thirty years, and I'm getting tired of watching it frankly. I'm not one for bagging players but the likes of Mossop and Johnson should be water carriers. I've not seen such disinterest in players since the last Salford side was cobbled together. With the exception of a year and a bit where Hastings dragged us around the park and made us feel like a real RL team, it's been the same forever. I'm sure RM doesn't coach them to be utter dog turd, but it's in our DNA isn't it? We can't shake off our deformed and losing DNA. We're stuck with it it seems. It's getting to the point where I can cut and paste the response to games... Too flat in attack. Too lazy in defence. Every time we got field position we ****ted someone in the face. Whenever we got stuck in our own third we either did five mediocre drives and a kick or knocked on. Whenever we got good field position we didn't really know what to do with it. The same sweating pile of shite as ever. Feel free to copy and paste for next week. Not good enough again in any area. But that's Salford unfortunately... Paul you can only say as you see,if that's what you see then that's what you say.

They just need to focus and work on the ‘processes’ a favourite Watto term. The team is just lacking continuity, structure, discipline and cohesion at the moment. So nearly everything required for a team. We are just a group of individuals at the moment. There is some effort but a total lack of anything approaching even the most basic processes. RM needs to decide quick smart his best 17 and actually give them time to gel. Injuries and suspension are going to happen but constantly fannying with the teams structure is not allowing them to form those close bonds. I'm not really seeing progress. Cas were ordinary and we never really looked like we were capable of controlling that game.

When the Fixtures were released in October/November Whom amongst this Forum thought we'd have more the Two points ? Saint/Hull FC /Catalan away And a Cas team showing there Regular Erratic start to the season,Let's not forget Ten players left Nine new players came Plus a new Coach with his new Tactics and Whatever. But the most obvious change is what a Odd looking fellow Richard Marshall is Square Head and Daft Haircut those two things worry me the most. Reminds me of That Film from years ago with Peter Cushing Christopher Lee. Ingrid Pitt and her enormous Eyes. The Abominable Dr.Phibes.

Well guys I think it's the best first half we've had; they scored a rather fortunate first try and silly marking gave them another. We led 12-6 at one point but we didn't keep the pressure on. First 25 of the second half awful, poor discipline aided by some weak decisions by the ref, who seemed to yet again ignore not lining up at the ptb and offside. We then had a good last 15 So we're getting better. He said he's doing some squad rotation so hopefully in a couple of weeks we'll be able to judge a bit better I'm looking forward to the cup match and hopefully Sarge v that idiot Matutia.

Ok,after a nights sleep, let’s look at the positives, starting from the back. Kear is doing ok,he dropped one kick but it was very tough and Evalds grassed an easier one. Livett strengthened our defence in the centres. Watkins looked livelier. Unlike some,I’ve no problem with the halves. Ackers was good,Greenwood and Roberts formed a strong second row. Seb was our best forward. BUT Moose looks off form and seems to have lost some aggression, bar that daft hit late on. Johnson is a squad player only. Finally,I just don’t get Addy yet,but I may be wrong. He’s obviously a very tough lad but I’m not sure what I’m missing. AND Hicks was his normal self, like an over friendly puppy. Made several bad calls but didn’t cost us the match

I need to watch it back but that looked the most cohesive we’ve been all season to me, baby steps but right direction at least. If we can cut out the silly mistakes we’ve got a decent chance next week. Got to keep improving, that’s all really we can ask I’m not convinced, but I’m a little more hopeful than last week

The discipline and penalties are a symptom of the problem, not the cause. I was hoping Marshall would bring some St Helens style defense to the team. He spoke about it in pre-season and I thought we'd see some line speed and aggression. Unfortunately we're still slow moving up, lose the ruck and give up too many yards. As a result of this we concede penalties through always being on the back foot, and then frustration sets in. On the plus side I thought right edge defense, which has been woeful so far, was much better this week.
Kear is not a fullback. Fullbacks these days should be a third pivot but he has no passing game so our attack becomes one dimensional.
Five games into the season, Marshall has had the time to look at everyone. After 5 games I reckon we only have one ever present (Tui)! He now needs to choose his best team and stick with it so it can gel. But surely that team must include the few players who have a bit of x-factor - Escare, Inu and Pauli.

We just aren’t doing the small things well that all add up and make such a difference. Our game management has been the worse I’ve witnessed by any club in SL so far this year. We’re playing like an enthusiastic, excitable naughty puppy that needs to learn the error of its ways. Fortunately these small problems are fixable once the penny eventually drops.

If it wasn’t for those stupid penalties that game would have been a 4 point difference. There was improvement last night and I’m hoping to see more in the next few weeks. I was totally depressed after the Hull game but I am more optimistic now.

The big problem for us is the spine.
RM can't decide who he wants to play at FB with a different player each week. Tui is all effort but he's running around in circles mostly because he doesn't have that organiser inside him. Brown is supposed to be an experienced organiser but simply isn't doing it. Musical chairs at hooker also ruins any continuity. I understand that the team will change during the course of a season, but to gel as a side we need to keep a spine together as often as possible. All the game management, decisions, and go forward comes from them.
It's also a little worrying that our most experienced players look finished at this stage of the season. Mossop and Brown have surely gone on a season too far?

He has decided that he wants Sarge at full back but he’s been injured. Ackers has either been injured or banned,Taylor is injured. I suspect he knows his first 13 but it’s the subs and injury/disciplinary replacements that he’s struggling with. On reflection, there has been some improvement and that now needs to be converted into results

Excellent post from red devil.
Agree totally especially surrounding the 3 X factor players.
I trust he will see sense soon and play a Winger who managed to reach the Team of the Year last season.
We need flair - One Up Rugby will not bring in the fans .....when we can.
