If I wanted to watch scrums and set pieces then I'd be watching Union. Whether they go permanently or stay, they will eventually disappear because they are just a throwback in our game. They're ugly, pointless, and baffling to outside viewers. < ......they are just a throwback ....." like nipples on men.

I think you're all forgetting TGG srums like what they used to be push before you arrive there, biff, lose the ball, biff, kick a few shins punch the hooker, break up before the ball comes out, biff penalty ...... biff. They're a sad loss for those who prefer a much slower but far more violent game and wear rose coloured glasses. And I liked the biff! Bring back the biff!!

The best ball playing forward I have seen in a Salford shirt was Johnny Ward. Certainly when he was at Cas but,for me,Terry Ogden was of more value to Salford I didn't mention value. I said the best I had seen in a Salford shirt. In fact Johnny was one of the best I had in any shirt.

So you did, apologies. I never thought Johnny Ward really wanted to be at Salford so I was always disappointed by him,a bit like Kirk the berk, really. Ward also fetched Barry Kear with him. What a big lump he was

The best English ball playing prop I've seen was Brian Lockwood. Saw him totally destroy the Aussies in the 70s at Bradford. Like a big Keeny Gill.

I agree about Johnny Ward being an excellent ball player and about him seeming unhappy at Salford I couldn't say he was the best ever mostly because there are nearly as many candidates as there are criteria.

What a big lump he was We signed Barry Kear from Featherstone Rovers. The way I remember it. He played for fev against us at the Willows had a blinder,Brian Snape signed him. I think he lasted two seasons maybe one I think it was 1973.We signed Big Bill Bryant from Cas along with Ward and Billy Kirkbride. In the late sixties early seventies. Barry Kear is 699 on our heritage list.

Jonny Ward either fetched Kear over or recommended him, whether he was from Fev or not,as he felt he had potential. The physios called him Aladdin because he was under the lamp so much. In Jimmys Chippy you could order Barry Kear and chips,he was such a pudding.

Must admit I don`t remember Salford signing Bill Bryant. I couldn’t find a heritage number for him,but it rings a vague bell,no more than that.

This his now getting ridiculous. When Salford signed Barry Kear from Featherstone Rovers.Ward had left.So why would he recommend him to Salford.I will agree with you that kear didn't set Salford on fire. All I said was Johnny Ward was a great ball playing forward and like Russ said theirs was quite a lot more in the league. But speaking to J W on occasions in the club it was the travelling to and from Leeds was the problem.

Don 't you need a Tardis for this kind of time travel? The Stone Age to civilisation and back can only be done with some serious jiggery pokery.

Not sure what’s getting ridiculous, just banter about Barry Kear. we can agree to disagree on how he came to be at the club.

Just watched it again - Lannon was as good as I thought.
Sio went under the radar a bit as well - ran the ball really well. Looks to have recovered from a slow start to the year.
