What makes it obvious that Toronto is a team based in Toronto in name only is that SBW will be announced in London next week.
Why not to fanfare in Canada?
Smoke and mirrors.

If Toronto truly maximise the Publicity from the signing of SBW then it'll give them the exposure they want in Canada, It's not the Canadian/ American way in Sports to rely on Young home grown players At The very beginning Of a sporting organisation. Look at the Start of the 🇺🇸 MLS Football (Never Soccer) they signed players at the end of there's Careers Beckham/ Lampard Eckersley Brothers 😎 from Salford (Google them). The vast majority of SBW Wages won't be based on Home or away wins. It's the Profile dude ?? That old saying there's no such thing as Bad publicity (Apart from Harold Shipman & Shipmans paste) Seems to be the Overwhelming Shizzle from this signing.

I do Wonder if the Bosses at The Wolfpack Discussed the fact the first game in Toronto isn't till the end of April, and The training wil be on the Distant suburb of Fallowfield for the first six and a half Months. But He'll be Counting down the Days and Hours till 8th February when he visits his local team and our distinctive aroma of "Merde ferme".

Great for SL having such an influential player.
Let's not forget this is only what Koukash tried to do, granted on a whole new level.
He brought players in on big contracts. He was always demanding a cap increase. He was the main driver around the introduction of the 2nd marquee. Was continually publicising he was going to sign a "very big" player.
We initially enjoyed the ride, but our new found wealth did split the RL community...... Against One with resentment / For one with the money and much needed publicity he / it brought to our second tier sport.
Swings and roundabouts, but I welcome it, cannot wait to see SBW at the AJ Bell!

Apparently they are now chasing Semi Radradra, for me he would be a much bigger coup than SBW as he would walk into just about any rugby team (of either code0 in the world, he is real box office.

And here is a example A Story on the BBC News Website, Not Sport or BBC North But the Main section . This is at the time of posting a Heavily Read story around the World. I noticed McDermott mentioned Salford in the press conference. In a derogatory way of course. He also, hypocritically, said that clubs should scrap the cap to move forward so we can see more of these signings. Directly contradicting himself when he was at Leeds and Koukash wanted the same thing. Having SBW and Toronto in SL is a good thing. But I do hope that McDermott falls on his smarmy ass.

Why what did he say about Salford?
Can't stand BM he's just an annoying tw@. The sooner he's sacked again the better.

Why what did he say about Salford? Can't stand BM he's just an annoying tw@. The sooner he's sacked again the better. Something along the lines of "With respect to those clubs (Which means the opposite) Salford and Featherstone getting to the GF isn't going to get the headlines." Which is a bit weird, as I remember a ton of Saints fans moaning that Salford were getting all the headlines.

Jesus wept.
A trawl of social media this morning seems to reveal that most people watching or attending the SBW introduction have been struck by some mental disorder. Journos and RL people speaking out that the cap should be scrapped and allow the big teams to spread their wings. Like it will somehow paper-over the cracks of a poorly managed governing body. They seem unable to see the inevitable consequences of such an action. Effectively splitting the main competition into a two-tier league, where the bottom half dwindle and fade away financially as well as on the pitch. I'm not sure potential investors see a five team league as progressive, and the fans of everyone but those top clubs will turn away. The top teams whinged for years that the also-ran clubs were not providing enough competitive games. When the cap comes in it allows the likes of Castleford, Salford, Hudds etc to pull themselves slowly up from their boot straps and compete. Now that the likes of Wigan and Leeds have struggled the competition standard has 'worsened'. The big clubs want competitive matches but don't want their positions challenged. That's what this boils down to. The emergence of Toronto worries the top clubs because they can't compete financially with what they can do.
The cap needs looking at, without a doubt, but it also means that what happened to Bradford hopefully should not happen to any other club again. When the top clubs are running at a loss, it's dangerous ground to start mentioning getting rid of financial safeguards for a race to spend to the top. Like high-stakes poker, it will only ever favour those who can afford to lose.

If the cap is taken away the situation will arise as in soccer, we'll end up with 4 or so teams dominating and all the money will go into players wages as per SBW. If/ when the US comes in and there's no cap, RL in the U.K. will virtually disappear as we know it now....they will throw money into the game in the tens of millions Perhaps, however, we might have a flat playing field in the NW and the Lancashire Cup might return! Salford v Oldham again leaving Supersupersuper League to Manchester v New York

I love the idea of big cities involved : Leeds. That's it: Leeds. Kinston upon Hull has 2 teams who are no nearer amalgamation than the Palestinians and Zionists. The City of Wakefield has 3 teams! Wigan (famous for a music hall joke about a wharf on the canal and little else in the last 25 years), Saint Helens (famous for beer glasses), Warrington (famous for …?) and the rest are not world class metropolises. So how do they attract businesses to compete with New York, Boston, St Louis. There were some big cities in the lower leagues but are they RL areas? (London excepted: nowt against them).
Anyone want to try a Paris St something?
