I’ll be having a couple in town where I’m meeting mates from Leeds before heading to the game - any recommendations as it’s been a long time since I’ve had a drink in Manchester?

Northern quarter I drink about 5 times a year so I’m not too fussed (it is a special occasion after all) but the others do like revolting hipster beers so I’ll have a look at Northern Quarter. Cheers.

Not cheap ... but on the corner of Dale Street and Tariff Street are 3 bars: Tariff and Dale, the Beatnikz Republic, and (down Tariff Street) Northern Monk refectory (as you'll know from Leeds). If you come into Piccadilly, there is a good (if crowded) bar on the approach: upstairs is quieter once you have your beers. The bar in Victoria has gone up but so have the prices, and the selection is now standard again, The Pilcrow is near Victoria: last time I went in, the beers were excellent but the prices made my eyes bleed. Only the like of MichiganRed can afford it. If you want an old fashioned boozer (possibly with singing Mancunians) and Holts ... I give you the Hare and Hounds near Shudehill bus station ... the Lower Turks head next door is good as well.
These are what I use in my walk between the stations. However plan using WhatPub and you'll do OK.

Not cheap? Try drinking down here in the big smoke. I went to a gig on Friday night and was charged £6.50 for a pint of flat cider!

I hate to imagine what it is now.

Was astonished recently when I went into Lime at the Lowry and was charged £5.50 for an IPA, £5.50 in Salford is just not right.
We're going into Bock after we've eaten in Sams Chop House as we have a brilliant idea for some pictures of Lowry dressed in Salford gear, don't think there is a decent bar within 1/2 a mile of OT so I might be the most sober I've been at a game all season.
Afterwards remains TBA, win and it's a liver shattering lash up long into the night, loose and it's a liver shattering lash up to drown my sorrows.

Would be good if the Railway Club on Chester Road opened its doors to Salford fans on Saturday. Used to have a great atmosphere pre-match for Utd games and they always did pie & peas, hotpot etc.
Think I'll be in Eccles pre-game. Could have a few Stains fans mooching around as well as I'd imagine a fair few will travel into Eccles via the Earlestown/NLW train.

I'm in two minds whether to go to Eccles or Manchester, probably leaning towards the latter. Grand Central and Salisbury for me, maybe something at Knott Bar then a tram down to Old Trafford. Going to avoid the Bishop Blaize and The Trafford, probably be rammed.

Going to avoid the Bishop Blaize and The Trafford, probably be rammed. Yeah best swerving near the ground. Would also get on tram early as you can. Getting the team at Deansgate might be a struggle as usually rammed by the time it gets there on match days. Shame there are no boozers anymore on Chester Road (town side of OT) as we used to walk to the ground and stop for a few at the Pomona Palace near Cornbrook back in the day.
