Finishing 3rd would be even better. Can lose the first game and still get a home game after that to progress to the semi. See I looked at the play off system and just couldn't fathom the 2nd & 3rd place game.
Making the 5 is the main goal now, see Leeds as the stumbling block and you'd think that Hull KR will be incredibly motivated for that last game as there is every likelihood that them or the loser of the other Sunday game will be heading down.
As I understand it, if we finish 3rd, our first play off game will be against the team finishing 2nd (probably Wigan) away. The loser of that then gets a home game against the winner of 4 v 5. The winner of that first game gets the privilege to play Saints away for a place in the GF. The loser of that away day at Saints, gets a home game against the one remaining club for a place in the GF. Hope that makes sense. So third place gets one home game at some point.

The thing I like about the team at the moment is they are capable of winning the grand final. I'm not saying I think they will win it but the have beaten all Teams this year apart from Wigan. I class the away game at St Helens as a victory irrespective of the officiating I also think the team believe they are capable of beating anyone on their day.

I've just had a good squizz at the fixtures and I'm conflicted. The last weekend sees Leeds play Warrington at home, I'd love to see Leeds finish bottom for no other reason as I'd kill to see the RFL and SL try and keep them in SL and the rest of the league go nuts, but you'd think that Leeds winning would help us finish higher than 5th. London have games against the other relegation fodder so potentially can be masters of there own destiny. The RFL must be rubbing their hands with glee as this is all going to be pure drama, the only thing I wonder is if they will move all relevant games to KO at the same time during the last weeks games. For all games to kick off at the same time , all games would have to be played either friday nite or sat at the latest, as the Sky in there wisdom have decided, that the play off games will be played , thurs and friday nit, sod the fans, sky just need to fill some tv time between the football, ABOUT TIME SKY WENT AWAY.

Not overly complicated then. Why can't we just make it simple. But I think 3rd or 4th is definitely possible especially if we beat Warrington, goes against the grain but I'll be chearing on Saints to batter Warrington and knacker them out.

Seeing Hastings play his last game (for now) in a final would be fitting.
An outstanding talent like him deserves it and he would be in his element.

So you want sky to go away? Where would you then expect Rugby league to be televised? who would provide the 1.8m per club per year? Ultimately without sky the game will go back to being a part time sport, regardless if its sky or anyone else ultimately we are a minority sport, any other broadcaster would look to slot us in where they can and we would have to oblige!

Sky slot us in where they can now. Have you missed all the Thursday night games?
Let's at least go out to tender this time rather than taking the first deal that we are offered.

I agree but there won’t be many others offering unfortunately. What they should do is be far more restrictive on the terms of the deal and give Sky less say over what fixtures they can televise, when and how far in advance they can change them.

I think we are that far in with sky that if they wanted to kick off at midnight then that's what we would be doing.

My post refering sky has been answered by a few, should of gone out to tender years ago, but the rfl took the free holiday and the brown envelope. I f i remember right, Marwan was asking the same question, why was it not put out to tender. ?

There was brown envelope. The amount sky offered was announced. The RFL took the view that it was more than they would get if it went to tender. The Club owners agreed and accepted the deal. I think Koukash was the only owner to vote against.
I think there would be little competition for Sky if it went to tender. Only the BBC and Sky bid got challenge cup games. No terrestrial provider will show 3 or 4 live games a week. So that leaves Sky, BT and Premier.
No one watches premier so we would get even less visibility of it was them. BT also show RU and football games on random days and times. If TV companies spend a lot of money they want to choose the times they broadcast. All broadcasters. Why would they do it any other way?
Look at the NRL. Massive TV deal. All games shown live so they go from Thursday night to Sunday evening with no 2 games on at the same time.
There would be no full time RL division if it wasn’t for TV money. I’m no defender of Sky but they have enabled the sport to go fully professional. There are things I don’t like about it - I don’t think you should get money every time your on, I think that should just be spread as part of overall funding but I suspect that is an SL Board decision rather than Sky - usual myopic club owners.
We won’t get a load of money as the advertising market is largely restricted to the M62 corridor. Hence why expansion is important
The last day of the top division hasn’t had all games kicking off at the same time since the late 80s I don’t think (maybe early 90s?). I think we might need to get over this one

Premier Sports wouldn't have the money to match any bid from sky. They are getting a decent portfolio of sports together though and also have a Freeview channel for selected games which would potentially give more exposure. At £89 for a year would RL fans ditch the substantially more expensive sky for Premier if they showed SL? Possibly.
BT could become the home of rugby if they add SL to premiership RU. Would they be interested? Who knows, but at least give them the chance to bid. Not sure how much it is to subscribe to but I believe it is included in many of their broadband packages?
The sky money has obviously kept full time RL going but the last deal was a bad one with no rise in TV money for 7 years but cash upfront which was no doubt squandered by most of the clubs.
Sky have lost a few big events since the last deal such as CL football, Spanish football, plus selected boxing and cricket tours etc. Do they really want to lose RL as well?
