But most importantly it was a fantastic Salford performance We hung on and defended superbly when Catalans started well and when they threw all their big fellas on early in the second half, we made their big middles work overtime and when they tired we took them apart. Great game plan, brilliantly executed.

Five Catalan players banned. Sly Tomkins gets 3 matches, others one except Edwards referred. Amazing they were nearly as bad when we played them and not even a yellow card

This massively increases Leeds' chance of beating them, which means I think that a win for us over Hudds should grab us fifth place.

Five Catalans players banned the week before they play Leeds, yet only one Warrington player??
Nothing to see here.

Did you watch Catalan v Salford? They just thugged it for an hour. Ref too weak, not even a sin binning. Thought Salford were fantastic in not retaliating and then running them ragged. Head high tackles seemed to be the norm. It's about time the panel caught up with them.Tomkins, every match, in with knees, sly digs always in the refs ear. He's deserves all he gets.

We’ve done ok with the disciplinary panel this year and it’s not the easiest job allocating objective bans without personal opinion creeping in (how can you say something was or wasn’t malicious without opinion?! It’s impossible) so I don’t really want to criticise them. However, I watched it live and haven’t rewatched any clips but I recall Hill throwing a few punches and being involved in a few scuffles - I’m not surprised eyebrows have been raised that he’s escaped a ban. Philbin and Patton also had two high tackles each although I’m not sure either were bad enough for a ban. Wire can count themselves lucky.

To be fair Warrington have been equally punished - as Matty Smith is joining them immediately!!!!

Child's back to the Championship after both coaches Catalan & Warrington complained about him in only his 2nd Superleague game since May. Apparently Leeds look safe now and he's been taken off their payroll.

Can we give it a rest with the ‘referees are bent’ stuff please? It makes us rugby league fans look a bit daft - you might have been saying it tongue in cheek but many are deadly serious.
Yes Child is a poor referee but at the end of the day he’s just a normal bloke trying to do a very difficult job in front of thousands of armchair referees with video playback capabilities every single week. I don’t envy him one bit. He’s not bent, corrupt, biased or on anyone’s payroll other than the RFL. But I am glad he has dropped back down - he’s just not up to Super League standard in my opinion.

To an extent I agree but Childs is not fit for purpose, in a civvy street job his performance would see him getting hauled over the coals at least. I don't think any ref has it in for any particular team but I do believe constant negative chanting from fans influences them at times during a game. The sooner we adopt the NRL 2 ref system the better. The issue there is we don't have enough decent officials to provide 6 each week never mind 12.

This is bang on. Not bent, corrupt, any of those things. Promoted and given high profile far too soon. His style is all about disrupting the flow and giving too many penalties. We all know there’s an offence at every tackle, the art is when to blow up. As the Font, himself an aspiring ref, well knows,Childs predilection for reverse penalties does my head in. The one he gave in the Catalans game was undoubtedly correct as the player moved off the mark but,c’mon,it was under the sticks. Better referees would have told him to step back and play the ball. Id say he’s the worst I’ve seen but there’s always Jack Smith...........

Jack Smith is the worst out there at the moment. Far far worse than Childs.

There aren't enouhgh refs to provide competition. They aren't paid enough, and they're not supported enough. The talent pool to assign to matches is consequently poor. It's another consequence of the very limited financial resources our game has in this country. I mean, honestly, who'd be a ref? I wouldn't. That said, I do wish Childs would let games flow a bit. He doesn't half disrupt the flow of matches. I hope he can improve, other refs have improved in the past.
