The Salford front row in the mid 60s had the three Bs who were Bott, Burdell and Bloody Ogden. Bob Burdell was the hooker but was replaced by Martin Dickens for the 1969 final. Neither Burdell or Dickens are in the shortlist so I'm buggered who I will vote for.

Just googled Richard 'Dick' Evans. Played for Salford 1977 & 78. I thought it was longer than that!. Can you please check how many games he played. thanks He played for Salford 47 times and scored 4 tries. Also played for Barrow, Swinton and Wales (3 times).

I remember the game when Alker, a week after having his appendix removed, late in a game which we had easily lost, chased back over 50 yards to make a try saving tackle. Yes he had his problems afterwards, but I have been voting for how the players performed playing for Salford. Surprised that Dick Evans wasn't in the list, unless I missed his name. Was that Wire away? I think it may have been and you may be being harsh on Malcolm as I'm pretty sure it was more like 70 yards and it was Wire's own Fellaini lookalike he caught, Matt King!😁 I remember that game well as we had a 10-15 minute purple patch IIRC in the first half and took the lead. I celebrated by picking up the woman in front of me (I don't normally do this btw!) and throwing her up and down only to be told that she'd only a few weeks earlier had major stomach surgery.😮 Not one of my finer moments!

Everyone goes on about Alker playing after surgery but not that woman supporting after surgery. Typical!! 😂 I also remember Alker tearing Warrington apart at the willows on Good Friday. Probably his best game in attack for us. Think it was the season after we were promoted when he got the record for tries for a forward for Salford. They were his best years for us

When people go on about players putting their bodies on the line for the club Malcolm epitomises this. His length of service playing in a mostly beaten team pulls the vote from me. I feel he would have developed into a better player in a better team but stayed loyal despite interest from other higher profile clubs. Peter Edwards shone but was only with us for a short time. Other players such as Mark Moran, Mark Lee, Paul Groves and Paul O'Neill were good for spells.

It was definitely at home. I think it was against 'Ull as I was sitting on the opposite side to the shed where I normally stood, and I had won a competition with Radio Manchester. It may well have been 70 yards, but I didn't want to exaggerate.

Alker takes it.
Makes a nice change from 70’s players I never saw play. Now just need to vote Baynes in!

It may well have been 70 yards, but I didn't want to exaggerate. Well my memory obviously not serving me too well I'm afraid!! The Alker incident I'm referring to where he caught Matt King was in 2009. That's a full 5 years after his emergency appendix operation! www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/sport/4518801.GUARDIAN_VERDICT__Warrington_Wolves_62_Salford_City_Reds_20/Sorry to bring back bad memories everyone!😂 Malc made his comeback after just 15 days out in a 30-12 home win against London a week after we'd been thumped 82-6 at the KC!😱 Surely we hold the SL record for most 40, 50, 60 & 70 point thrashings? We've conceded 80 at least twice as well IIRC? (Hull & Bradford?) Oh and back to the Alker debate, I'm pleasantly surprised he's still held in such high regard. He's obviously gone into meltdown after his career ended and hopefully he can come back and redeem himself somewhat once he's served his time. My favourite Salford player ever I think and wish we could have 17 Malc clones in the squad every week.

hammerings, constantly asked to name change, derided for small crowds, piggin' hard ground for public transport, unfashionable sport ...
proof of what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger

I see Hull have 3 players mentioned in this list who picked this? Garry Schofield!! I have a celebrity hit list and think that as we pay our taxes we should be entitled to eliminate one each April 1st.
It used to be that fat tongue buffoon from Essex innit but now it can only be Schofield, though it would irk me to call him a celebrity it would definitely be worth it.
