West Bank ARLFC Not a pleasant place to visit Lots of Violence From All sides, Nice Hummus & Falafel in Warrington Seriously?
Unless you're a little fibber I just lost the enthusiasm for him signing. Thought he'd gone to play in the lower grade game in Aus.
I'm sure I read somewhere that he'd fallen out of love with the sport, hence taking a break and heading to Australia. Doesn't look like it's an ability issue so hopefully he'll feel invigorated being part of a young and energetic squad who'll feel they have a bit to prove. This could go 2 ways.... hungry players who are looking to prove a point who blossom under Watson and prove a few doubters wrong or other clubs could indeed be proved right in that they're just not good enough to hack it at SL level. I'm optimistic so I think they'll all turn into RL legends!😁 Let's hope Lawton can get into decent shape as he's one big MoFo and he'll be tough to put down if he has the aggression to match his size. Has a bit of a feel of the 05/06(?) season about it under Harrison where we were tipped to struggle but the sum of the parts was much more than we were individually. Here's hoping anyway!!!

Watched the vids of Lawton that are knocking about, if you look close when he was in widnes team he looks skinny ?? to what he does now. 4 yrs down under has bulked him up big time, just hope he is as keen as he looks, one big guy, that will rip through any defence , hopefully.

Got feeling this will be the season where Murray and Nakubuwai nail on 1st jerseys. Both have all the attributes to make it. Shame now we let Nzongou leave as could have been in the same boat.

I really don’t want to be to negative, especially when the guy hasn’t played a game but Lawton was playing for Widnes West Banks last season who are in the same division as folly lane. It is ludicrous to expect anything from him next season at super league level. Just because he played a few games for Widnes doesn’t mean he will be a good signing, plus this was years ago when he will have been at his peak fitness wise. You can try and take all the positives you want, but my initial reaction is it’s a disgraceful signing for an SL club. He should have at least had to prove himself in the lower leagues. Hope I am wrong, but that pack is awful. Signing a nonce doesn’t thrill me either.
Bit harsh.

nonce doesn’t thrill me either. He was found not guilty. Didn’t even make it to trial (the second time after the first trial fell though due to procedural issues) - new evidence was discovered which showed there was no case to answer. On Lawton - nobody is saying he is anything other than a punt. I’m happy to see how he goes.

Thanks for the link Salfordslim. Skipped lots of the inter-poster warfare but intersting to see the debate about Lawton from those that have seen him play. I don’t know enough about his motivations to leave the game or for getting back into it. I guess I hope he’s one of those who lost their love of the game when he broke through, found it wasn’t what he expected and got disillusioned or wanted to be a ‘normal’ young person who could party and do the stuff that most 20 year olds take for granted but now has realised what he has given up and us fully committed to getting back on track.
Issue for us is the lack of depth in the squad means well probably need at least a few matches out of him this season so if he isn’t ready to gone back it’s s gamble. I’m not unhappy we’ve taken the gamble though. What a story and a personal achievement it would be if he made it now.

Granted he has been out of the game for a number of years but couldn't the same can be said for players coming back from long term injuries. Brinning has been out of the game for a year, if he had been re-signed would you have considered that a "disgraceful" decision? As for proving himself in the lower Leagues, he has already played in Super League. Played at a Semi-Pro level in Oz, which at the very least is a similar standard to our lower divisions, and last year played at a decent amateur level where he rediscovered his love for the game. If we insist on making him "prove" himself in the lower leagues I would suggest that he has already fulfilled that criteria. By all accounts he has been signed on what amounts to a pay as you play contract, he will go through the same pre-season as everyone else, and will only be picked if he shows enough. He will have very little impact on the cap, so whats the harm in giving the lad a chance under those circumstances? With regards to Walker, whatever rumors we have heard about him (lets face it there are a million of them in Rugby League) he hasnt been found guilty of anything so unless you have personal knowledge of the circumstances surrounding his non conviction, other than what you have read on Google, its probably worth giving the lad the benefit of the doubt for now should he actually be signed.

Good bit of business on a pay and play deal.
Get him farmed out to Swinton to toughen him up a little and let's see what he's made of.

People criticised the signings of Burke and Chamberlain. I would much rather someone who is young and keen, than someone who is past his best.

Whatever his pseudonym, I would imagine its inventive and mildly offensive.
