If it comes to Salford & Leigh merging together, would you turn up and support them?

If it comes to Salford & Leigh merging together, would you turn up and support them? No. But I can honestly see this is the only possible resolution. I'd not begrudge this but it would wrangle. I want a Salford in Salford..

I doubt it will happen. But in answer to your question, yes. If it's a choice between surviving in some form, or disbanding, then of course.

I personally wouldn't be opposed to the idea on the proviso that we retain the Salford name. We would have a larger fanbase, potential to have some financial stability and a chance to compete at the top level.

I’d still go, if it did happen i’d like to think we’d be called something along the lines of Salford & Leigh. I know we want to keep the Salford name but we couldn’t expect Leigh to drop theirs.

As someone who used to watch the North Sydney Bears when I lived in Sydney, mergers always make me nervous.
However, if it's the only way Salford can endure (and I think it might be), I'd still support the team. Salford Centurions?

Unless we kept the Salford name and played all our games in Salford (I know we played a home game in Leigh a few years ago but that was a one off), then no thanks, not for me.

As a first and foremost die hard Salford RLFC supporter and followed for the last 40 odd years or so and brought up in Weaste, the thought of a merger or `No Salford` just doesn't bear thinking about, however in times of change and the way I see rugby league as a whole going...downwards, I do believe the only way forward is a merger. I remember being at Oldham way back when I joined people demonstrating at half time re a merger with them, however I am coming around to the idea. If its a merger or nothing then lets look at the merger. Like another poster has placed on here, Leigh supporters would not wish to see the identity of the club disappear and neither would Salford, so Salford & Leigh or Leigh & Salford whichever way you want to put them is the only viable option going forward. As regards where they play, whether it be at Leigh or Salford makes no odds to me, preferably in Salford so you don't lose your identity completely but having lived in Leigh for the past 20 yrs it would be easier...selfish I know, but surely as also being a rugby league supporter and follower, it appears our great sport is on the decline and to have something local is surely better than none. We have clung on and on for the past few recent years and the current `cap in hand` for a few quid to secure a players signing/contract does not bode well. I am trying not to be negative and have contributed to the fund and will continue to do so, however realistically just wonder and question when the nail in the coffin will come. The sad demise of Leigh, whether you like or loathe them does not I`m sure bring any satisfaction to any rugby league supporter and I can see a few others hitting the wall in the very near future. One thing that puzzles me though....how do the residents of Salford, particularly those on mega bucks...(Giggs,Fred Done and others alike not see whats happening to one of the local clubs, surely they can spare a few quid just this once!

If it’s the only way to survive and ultimately compete, I would support a merger

With the game struggling in general, I can only see the demise of periphery teams such as ourselves. The big teams will survive and the smaller teams will have to merge or slowly die. As with all things like this, the top table is everything, especially going into a tougher more competitive future where the market is a tough sell. Smaller teams will have to make a decision, be it now or some time in the future as to their ultimate fate. The world is a different place than thirty years ago where smaller clubs could happily compete with like-minded clubs at all levels. That reality is rapidly disappearing from the social and sporting horizon.
I'd love for us to be a force as we are, but that's never going to happen. I'm sure we'll have to ask ourselves these tough questions sooner rather than later. Or maybe not. If the thought of merging is really so offensive to some, the question wont be asked, and we'll probably slip away the way we are heading.

Mergers only happen in name only, Gateshead merged with Hull and became... Hull, Huddersfield merged with Sheffield Eagles and became...Huddersfield. outside of Superleague Carlisle merged with Barrow and became...Barrow Border Raiders.
I suspect Salford fans would support a merger if we kept the name, likewise for Leigh fans. I cant see Salford and Leigh Red Centurians taking off, playing at LSV, keeping AJ Bell as a training ground.

RFL want to grow the game and take it global. Watch this space, SL won't exist in its current form for much longer! It will probably be the big 4, plus French, Canadian, USA and maybe a Pacific Island teams that make up the rest. The rest will end up in a UK breakaway. Teams like Salford, Leigh, Wakefield, Bradford, Huddersfield, Widnes etc.
I hope not, and I can't predict the future but you can see the way things are going!

Can someone explain how a combined Salford/Leigh side playing in front of 4k fans would suddenly become a major force in the game?
It seems that people are clinging to a vain hope that the super powers of Koukash and Beaumont will join together after 2 failed ventures to create one big failure instead.
Unsurprisingly it's a no from me.

BBS...nobody has said we would be a major force in the game...but what I am saying and I think others are, `that at least we will still have a game to watch`. Observers and regulars to the forum indicate and refer to the demise of the game and the structure changing to include teams from other countries. Me personally just cant see it being sustained, but also value other peoples opinions and observations. I really cant see it taking off `globally` but you never know. I also appreciate your opinion and choice as regards being opposed to a possible merger but I really hope the title of your user name really doesn't become a reality whereby we have to get on these forums and beg for someone to `bringbacksalford` I am not even opposed to Koukash/Beaumont combination. They have been together a while now, appear to enjoy each others company, love rugby and oh `have lots of money between them`and probably more than the £20 quid I put in the tin
