As a Salford fan surely we should be wanting a win or does our season purely and simply revolve around just beating the bottom four sides home/away. If that's the case then if we are giving up on the one cup competition, giving up before a ball is kicked against the top 8, unable to compete in the majority of games then I along with many others will feel cheated and a little disillusioned with the whole set up and the way rugby league is going. How on earth are we expected to increase fan base if all that is on offer are 8 games where we have a chance of winning and the rest where we give just give up. If we cant even look forward to a cup game against a championship and local rival, then things are really bad. Last year and getting to the semi was pure dream world for some us that have been going year in year out without the hint of success and like others watching our beloved Salford at Wembley is a dream that hopefully comes off one day. If players are injured then so be it, but we should be going out with our strongest side and trying to WIN, otherwise what is the point. Fans are paying hard earned cash out for tickets these days and not getting value for money. Season tickets should be produced for the 8 games against the bottom 4 as the other games according to some are irrelevant.

I agree that consolidating our position in the top 8 is the most important thing, for this season in particular, and I don’t feel we’re strong enough to get to the final this year BUT we need to be going there all guns blazing tonight and get through to the next round. Going out to one of the big teams would be acceptable but if we go out to Leigh (again!) it’s really not going to be good for confidence going into this important run of games.
We should be able to take them in the forwards tonight but my only worry is where are our points going to come from? Shorrocks and JLJ must step up. Plus still no kicker, goals could make a big difference so if we do score any tries tonight for friggs sake touch it down near the posts! 🤣

If anyone thinks that our coach has targetted some games for a win and decided others are loseable, they do not know him. Watson will ensure the team tonight and every night will go for a win. He is not built in any other way.

Looking forward to this one tonight and a few beers in Leigh before hand. I really hope the team put in a performance. I have never got the attitude of ‘let’s concentrate on the league’ in any sport. We have been getting stuffed and haven’t really competed against any of the top 6 in the league (bar Hull) since July last year; I can’t see how a cup run is going to make that any worse. Will we take many fans tonight? Or is there a bit of apathy towards the cup this season amongst our fanbase?

I can see the benefits of a good cup run (especially after a great day out in Warrington last year) but I think with our small squad that SL security should be priority. like I say, just my personal opinion.. we should be beating this Leigh team regardless.

He is not built in any other way. I don’t know Watson and I know he’ll want to win tonight. The evidence is that he has picked a couple of matches where he didn’t expect to win even with a full strength side, and rested players to give him a better chance in winnable matches. He more or less said that with his ‘we need to be smart on team selection’ comment before the Wigan game and played Dizzy,Levy and Bennion in that game. He did something similar for Leeds away, damage limitation. Im not criticising him particularly, just following the evidence.

I think our only hope of creating tries from the backs is Wood. Forecast to pish it down around KO time so hopefully turn into a forwards battle

I appreciate everyone`s comments and obviously some agree/disagree with squad selection and what are the priorities etc and I certainly don't wish to criticise Watson. He has done a super job with the resources to hand and under difficult circumstances, but I agree with bonitared, that I feel his selection and sometimes comments appear to indicate he has targeted matches in the past. I'm also not saying that this is something new as it has gone on for years, but we are talking about the Challenge Cup against Championship opposition and `bragging rights` and confidence. Also I`m with 1873...few beers in Leigh before and after with a couple of fans I`m introducing to the game as Salford Supporters. Not sure on tickets sales, but hope we can have a decent turn out and cheer the lads home.

Could be worse. Sheens has 13 out but at least 6 will definitely return next week. Watsons a quick learner.

I think the only way we will expand our squad is by having more in the coffers which will help us in the long run. Agree what u say but think we need to see the team winning full stop. Having said that we’re losing 10-12 😳 so may be null and void. Come on u reds

Says something about the calibre of Radio Manchester, when they have such an impartial summariser as Neil Turley. It’s a wonder Trevor Hunt isn’t commentating as well. Still I suppose we have to be grateful that useless Jack is doing it.😀

That was embarrassing. Not even sure where to start! Is there a worse half-back pairing than Littlejohn and Shorrocks in Superleague? And why can't we find wingers that can cope with the high ball?
I don't think I've been this angry in a long time. It didn't look like anyone in that team put in 100% effort. A total shambles.

I can’t wait for contributors coming on and trying to tell me that we don’t have a problem defensively with our two wingers tonight.I don’t care how good offensively they are, they are a liability under any type of ball that is kicked through. As I previously said maybe Wigan don’t rate Shorrocks because I can’t see what he brings to the party. If Littlejohn was kicking to orders then the coach wants shifting,if he wasn’t then Littlejohn wants shifting. He made the Leigh full back look good by kicking too deep, thus being under no pressure. All in all very disappointing.
