Could be available on loan. Worth a look? Or do we wait for JLJ to bed in?

Definitely take a look and make that enquiry before Warrington, who are looking for someone to replace Patton. Smith is too good a player to be left out, he is still only 30 and always a dangerous player. Was sorry to see him leave when he went from us and is also a cover for goal kicking duties. Either that are go for Sammut. He has always been a handful and other clubs are also looking at him. Smith/Sammut have got to be better options than what we have now. Lose again on Sunday at Cas, which is more than likely and we are looking at having played 5 and won just 1. Yes, we have had a difficult start with games against Cas/Wigan/Saints etc but that's the nature of the beast and if we cant compete then I'm afraid we are back to a few seasons ago where everyone predicts a stuffing. Then the season and the final middle 8`s does not look good. We need something and need it fast or we will be adrift in the bottom 4 before you know it.

I’m not usually for snap changes but I did think Matty Smith would be the perfect replacement for Dobbo (within our price range) before the season started.
If he’s available and we have the money then I’d at least consider going for it.

I’d have him back in a heartbeat. Smith and Lui would be a formidable partnership. Like someone else said on here, I don’t think we can afford to persevere with Littlejohn too long because we desperately need to get into the top 8. Our pack is decent but we really need someone to lead us round the park. Get Manu off the payroll quick!

I dont understand the logic. If peoples argument is that we haven't got time to let somebody bed in, why would bringing in a player who hasnt played all season, who has never played with Rob Lui, be a better option than Littlejohn who has had pre-season plus 4 games to build a partnership with Lui. As far as I am concerned I think he has done ok so far without setting the world alight. Any halfback pairing needs time to develop regardless of how good the players involved are. You can argue the individual merits of Smith and Littlejohn as players and make a decision, but anyone saying its necessary to make a change as we cant afford a bedding in period for Littlejohn when Smith would undoubtedly need one himself means that your kind of talking out of your arse. Im happy for anybody to point out the flaw in my logic however?

NO I think you are correct.
"I don’t think we can afford to persevere with Littlejohn too long ": please note that the game is different in the UK for a half-back, the weather is different from Oz, the teams all play more varied moves whereas Aussie teams play more alike. It's not a question of perseverance as allowing for him to click.
I have always liked Matty Smith's play. But how can we see what Littlejohn can do without playing him? Not on the bench watching Smith.
Then again, what does our coach know? All players we have were better before they joined Salford. (sarcasm for those who need to be prompted)

Surely people realise that we’ve lost the same games that we did last year our best year in ages? Littlejohn is bedding in and deserves the time like Dobbo did.

If he wins the same number of games as last year (even with an end of season slump) with this team he’d deserve coach of the year. If we sneak into the top 8 it would be more than most expected from this squad. Come to think of it as long as we don’t finish bottom it will be more than most expected. This board doesn’t half get me down at times!

If they are dead and buried in a few months then I’ll join the funeral march.

God we're a bunch of miserable ****s on here at times!
Couple of stats for you:
Look at the first four games this season and then look at the same four games (not the first four, but Wigan at home, Saints away etc). Swap Leigh for Hull KR (comparative places in the table).
Last season, from these four games, we scored 2 points (i.e. we beat Leigh at home). This season, we have 2 points
Last season, we scored 74 points in these 4 games. This season, we have scored 62 Last season, we had conceded 81 points. This season we have conceded 100 points.
What does this tell us. It doesn't tell us that we're doomed (so sit down Private Fraser). It tells us that we aren't quite as strong as we were last year (but we have lost Dobbo and BMM and are trying to bed a new world in behind the scenes).
We aren't as bad as we think we are. Enough with those negative waves Moriarty!

clutching at straws maybe but, looking for positives;
we are not bottom of the league we beat KR more comfortably than most expected ? a win this weekend and (I think) we're in the top 8
but in the interest of balance; if we lose on Sunday I can't see where the next win will come from 2 wins from the last 20 games is a poor stat.
how long is reasonable to wait before something has to change ?

how long is reasonable to wait before something has to change ? In terms of Watson getting the boot? No one in their right mind would want Watto out, he is doing the best with what he has in front of him. Win our home games against those around us and we'll be fine, throwing the odd away win in. Might not be top 8 but I fancy us to stay in the top flight
