Glad to see some of the responses on this, I thought I'd be in the minority to be honest but some great points well made.
If they want to expand the game in these countries fine, let them create their own league structure but try and get the game in our own backyard in good nick first, try and grow the game in Cumbria where it is adored and get the academy system sorted SL clubs scrapping their academies is astonishing how will the game ever grow, do they not realise penny pinching at that level can set them back even more further down the line?!
I hope there is uproar on this from season ticket holders, that's where it will hit hardest right in the pocket (which the RFL will have to cough up for) it is completely ludicrous that they think they can up heave a fixture to America weeks before hand and a traditional holiday fixture at that.
Then again nothing surprises me with this sport, it is on its arse.

Talk in the Perpignan newspaper L’ Independant that we are discussing with Catalans and Ricki Willby the possibility of playing a match in June in New York It would entail moving our Easter game to June and would be our home game Huddersfield are against it,because they play Catalans on Easter Monday and think they will gain an advantage by not playing Good Friday. Not seen anything official or reported in the media ?

"English Super League To Test American Waters By Moving Game To New York"
I believe expansion will make the game prosper, and that the single most important market is the U S.
But just how many times have we "tested the waters" ? The history of RL is littered with waters that have been tested to death and from " No Helmets Required" to the present day we've made the USA sit SATs and then done nothing in terms of next steps and strategies.
On the other hand it's a good trip out and if it also puts some dosh the Red Devils way, it's an ill wind......!
"Start spreading the news You're leaving today (tell him friend) I want to be a part of it, New York, New York Your vagabond shoes, they are longing to stray And steps around the heart of it, New York, New York I wanna wake up in a city, that doesn't sleep And find your king of the hill, top of the heap Your Salford blues, they're melting away just make a brand new start of it, in Old New York If you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere Its up to you, New York, New York"

A shame it'd be a great trip Yeah but the difference is even with their rubbish product they'll make a huge effort to sell it and RL will just assume people will turn up.

Expansion? ?? So the RFL want us to take a game to the states to promote the game with hope of expansion. I will tell you now there, will only be 5 english teams in the so called super league in 5 yrs time. And we will not be one of them. This is not good for us SALFORD RLFC. or the future of rugby league in the country. So the RFL? want to expand? there are only so many players in super league, and as these new clubs come in with more money than the local super league clubs, players will go to the money, and i dont blame them . but that leaves the lower clubs like us, hull kr, widnes. etc , trying to compete with the money teams, Not a chance, so we finish lower down the league , then the RFL drop us down a league. Therefore the end of super league for the small teams, RFL want . Toronto in next year , so that is one team out, new york the following year 2 teams out, toulouse the following year 3 teams out, are you getting my drift? ?? And what do the bring fans wise to england? a dozen? so no money yet again coming in for the small clubs. For me the smaller club chairmen have to get together and try and block this before it gets out of hand, And if the rfl are hell bent on this going a head, they need to break away early and form our own league with the first division. Because if the first division teams think the RFL are going to include them in there plans in 5 yrs times they can think again. I will also be after a refund from the club for 1 match on my season ticket. I hope the club see's a bit further than the cash the RFL have promised them ? to play this match.

Problem is simple. If the US gets RL going then they'll just buy all the best players from the UK as they'll have big investment and crowds probably around 20-30,000 a match.

The RFL are not driving this. The New York people approached Salford and Catalans. The only concern that the RFL have, as with Toronto,is that there are no costs or liabilities to be incurred by our game in UK. I agree that if the project succeeded there would be a potential for losing players.

Surely the main aim is for America to have its own Super League in the (near) future

DO not count on that scoot. By the time the RFL have finished doing what they are doing, there will be no super league in this country, They are putting money in there own pockets.
