Wow. That was sickening. And after more than twenty years following Salford, you'd have thought I'd be used to it, but no. That one really hurts. Worst of all, as my girlfriend is a wheelchair user, and there's no wheelchair spaces in the away end, I was lumped in with lots of Saints fans. Bad place to be when it went mental at the end. Smith celebrated right in front of me.
What to say? Lui was awesome until he had a brain fart on 80. Saints played like men possessed in the last ten. Where has that been all year? Regan Grace showed Jason Robinson esque footwork to make Johnson look stupid.
In general, we gave far too many penalties away for lying on. That's what got them on that late roll. Others have said game management, but we didn't see the ball, last minute aside, once they got going. I guess it happens sometimes. It happened to Hull KR. Saints have the players to win the league but their heads haven't been there this year. They showed what they're capable of in that last ten.
Girlfriend is starting to get what supporting Salford is all about. So far she's seen the home Wigan game, Wakefield away, and now this. She's starting to worry it's her fault when we lose!
I hope we can bounce back well, but this one will hurt for a bit.

Just got my tickets. A little fact for you; I wanted to order my tickets through Salford, but as my girlfriend is a wheelchair user, I was told I had to ring Saints direct. That means Salford don't get the cut on the sale. Seems a bit odd to me, do we do that to other clubs?
Anyway, can't wait. Bring on Saints!

Indeed. I run (admittedly much, much smaller) events, and the first thing I learned is that you attract people with honey, not vinegar. People won't be shamed or embarassed into coming, it actually has the opposite effect and people stay clear of what they perceive to be a failing venture. You have to offer them a product that excites them, and then enthuse them about it. Make them feel like part of a successful story.
For my part, I'm missing the Hull game for work, but will be there for Wakefield. I don't need to be made to feel bad about missing a game I can't avoid missing.

This from the Warrington board;
"For years we have ridiculed and mocked Koukash as he tried (and failed) to assemble a team of highly paid players from round the league… But he has learnt from his mistakes and improved. We now find ourselves being thrashed at home by Salford.."

I missed Friday due to work, and was in Fishguard for work all weekend, so hit the road 8.45am, and drove through tough bank holiday traffic for 6 hrs and got in to the ground at kickoff. And it was totally worth it. What an utterly complete performance. Carney's kicking game sublime. Sau and Lui were awesome. But we were good right across the park, and totally nullified them as a threat. Not much voice left now!
I still think castleford are maybe better than us, but nobody else is. What a time to be a Salford fan!

5 games ban for Higson. Imagine if it had been one of our players with a clothesline like that. They'd have banned him till 2029.

I grew up in Macclesfield and moved from there to Chorlton when I was 27! (5 years ago) Got no particular reason to support one side over another, just ended up picking Salford when I was about 12, after years of my dad taking me to all manner of random matches. Stuck with it.
In this modern era, a large chunk of fans of any club will be like me. People move round a lot, people come from outside the area. Salford are my team, always will be. Am I a Salfordion? Of course not! Am I passionate about the club! Yes!
I like taking hipster friends to matches. They have no idea what to make of the sport. It's fun. Most of them cringe at the first big tackle, but are cheering them by half time.
I am not the traditional demographic at all, bearded folk musician that I am, but I love the sport and I love the club. Always will.

Wise words, Carnster. Whatever the legal position, I feel that the club, and indeed any club, still has a duty of care towards a player in this situation. Remember Terry Newton.
He has been found guilty and been handed a punishment to match. The club probably needs to conclude its own disciplinary with some sort of positive move, perhaps some sort of community or race relations role for Carney to show how he can rehabilitate and move on. This can then be brought round to be a positive for the club. Acceptance that this is wrong, action to improve things, and supporting the player.
