I always wondered if we cannot "drag" them into the fold: Albert Finney was born in Salford and has tonnes of kudos amongst the luvvies as well does Robert Powell, Joanne whalley (OK grew up in Stockport), Stephen Lord (who writes as well), Steve Evets, Kate Ford, Andrew Knott, etc.etc.etc...... Jason Manford etc.etc.etc ... There's loads of famous Salfordians in the media (if you don't know some of the above, you'll know their faces) so it's not as if we have to trawl through a limited sea.

Rugby League Week or Rugby League World ... the Week is an Aus publication and will no longer be in print in April. The owner, Bauer, has decided to end its run.

With the failure to have the future World Cup in the USA, if NRL do achieve the plan of kicking off teh 2018 NRL season in the USA, how can we follow up the interest it will create in that country?
What's your view on the "dual nationality" of players and how do you stop such favouring Australia?
And when you've buggered forgot, what are you going to do to MichiganRed?

As the media (excepting the Beeb) mix up the towns and cities within the conurbation, don't be too sure. They may think we're moving to Winter Hill as they'd say it was Manchester. At least the smell would be better.
Start talk of a move and we'll get linked to Coventry, Bristol or Newcastle as Wakefield have been.

Let's look at the stats re penalties: pre-season we were told of a tightening up by the refs concerning marking at the play-the-ball. We see both Mossop and Griffin are achieving high tackle counts in this area and also high stats in missing tackles; perhaps the penalties (or some of them) come from the same activity? Agree we do need to reduce the penalties as we seemed to attract lob-sided ratios in past seasons.

I remember reading an interview with GOB in the pre-season where he said he saw himself as a squad player at Saints but among friends at Salford. If that's the attitude Watto has created , with success (which somewhat depends on luck), we will attract players. We might end up with more headaches.

"we as a club have a clear record of good crowd behaviour going back several years." www.warringtonguardian.co.uk/news/9555986.Fifteen_Hull_KR_fans_thrown_out_for_fighting/Now I'm not one to underestimate the stupidity of people nor to start the game of 'you badder than us' but when you paint yourself as perfect, be careful. Idiots attend EVERY game. I note the story features twice in today's MEN. I also fear for MartiN HBR (survivor of many football games in the 70's.)

Thanks for this ... very interesting. One quote leapt out: "In terms of utilising all its feeder areas English rugby remains a basket case; only two of the 107 red rose players capped at senior level in the past decade hail from the north-east. Almost a fifth of those 107 individuals also either spent their teenage years being schooled abroad or playing rugby league." There was an interesting thread on Virtual Terrace of why RL is not as popular as RU: one factor was that children are not playing in the numbers we need. Mix that to the increased attraction of RU to established RL players and it is no wonder we are seeing a decline.

"just been looking online and tickets behind the sticks was £2." As a mean Northerner,I asked and it was the far end from where we were. As timings to get home were very tight and it would mean not being with the Salford fans, I decided the added delay in getting away was not worth it. Just checked RL&LE and the penalty count was H 6 S 8.
Oh, and as was walking into work, a city fan told me that they were only able to get a draw because of the damage the rugby did to the pitch on Thursday night!!!!!!!!

excellent MR as for Magic Rock: well walkable but in the wrong direction if rushing to the game after work/college/bedsit.

Just beyond the stadium is the Ropewalk: next to the cinema. But not my cup of tea (or GK Abbott). There's always the Yorkshire Rose on Leeds Road which has a Marston's bias. But the Sportsman is superb and worth the recommendation. As are the two in the station. BUT for the keen real ale fan: the Wood Street Craft Beer House.
