How much of our response is because of the way both fans and players performed at Warrington? It was a high and, as so often, this is followed by a low. I agree the fans were strangely quiet and the flow of play was equally lower key. As for the latter, we must remember that Wakefield had studied our game and knew what to do to break down our attack in tackles 3-5. Possibly that is why Carney made a difference: it added a factor they had not prepared for.
As for the comments that the 3/4s were Salford rejects: sorry but all three played well for us and were not rejects. Possibly a tongue in cheek remark but those three were very much part of their victory.
Ben again deeply impressed:I hope the rumours of interest from down under are just rumours.

I see the Warrington board has gone into "sack the coach" meltdown; as it did for years and years. So I do not expect owt nice in the comments: too much navel gazing.
In the pub after the match (Angel), I got a lot of positives from the Warrington fans: much was on the line of "I like the way you play" with very complimentary comments comparing our players with their players. So do not assume sulks.

Hoping you have time to ask why the name Manchester will guarantee extra fans: not investment but fans. Most firms invest for sales.marketing or a combination of both. They do not want a decrease in fans' numbers as then their market is less. Please ask for proof that the name Manchester will increase fans.

Slight amendment to negatives: Justin Carney banned for 8 + 2 games.
Addition to Positives: exciting play from Salford on the field

By my maths, and I've disgraced myself by moving a decimal point in a previous discussion, our points should mean we are in the top eight. Simply because the current bottom 4 have to play each other (Cat v Hudd, Widnes v Leigh, Cat v Leigh, Hudd v Widnes, Hudd V Leigh) and so, even if we go into freefall, this should save us. I'm factoring in some of the lower ranked teams losing to Cas and Leeds. However, as a Salford fan of many decades, I'm not expecting a cup run or even a taste of O.T. Both Warrington and Saints are coming back, Wigan's injuries will begin to clear, and Wakey and Leeds are playing well.
So if we do become Manchester for the final stages, I do not think even the good Doctor can assume the feel-good of a victorious year will propel us into the Manc Nirvana. It is as likely to be associated with a good year of nearly there.
I'm sure people will watch a Manchester club. However when Mars renamed Marathon chocolate bars, Snickers, they did not confuse the market by renaming them Dairy Nougat or Kit Snick. They kept away from brand leaders or they would lose market by confusion.
Of course we could be wrong and he may follow the Snicker route by renaming it by its main name: Salford RLFC.

Average: mean, median, mode? KS2 maths. Also we are being bombarded with news that there is a huge gap betweenthe highest earners and the lowest so mean and median will offer little insight.
Anyway the average wage for 2017 is supposed to be £27 000. About £519/week The only comparison is standing:£20/ticket.
1955: about 8.75% of the wage 2017: about 3.9 % of the wage
Completely irrelevant as "going to the game" was a major part of entertainment (especially for males) whereas watching a game on T.V. at home is now a major part of entertainment.
For comparison: Beer was about 6.6p/pint in 1955; it's now £3.46 to £4.70. (i.e about 10.2% of today's prices) a gallon of petrol was 22p, it's now about £5.35 (i.e. about 4.13% of today's prices)

Somehow, S&M Red Devils may gain a lot of interest but maybe not from RL fans.

I spent a long time trying to think of advantages which cannot be easily contradicted by keeping "Salford": there must be some as the Lowry Centre uses Manchester in their title. The obvious one is the bigger population to log into but this founders once you go to the next stage which is the expected success rate. Then there's the historic idea of Manchester having more prestige than Salford, especially to Londoners. Certainly Manchester is having business boom at the moment and perhaps the Doc hopes the Manchester moniker will attract Chinese or Arabic money. It did for City (OK it also did for t'other City). It certainly has a better ring for outsiders as investors ... but outsiders will not make up supporters.
