Thought we ground out that victory today.
We certainly didn't play to the best of our ability, but stuck in there and got the result. The whole performance was a little disjointed for me. How Dobson got MoM is beyond me. He had a better second half but a dire first half. I thought our MoM should have been Carney, followed possibly by Vidot. Lui and Dobson didn't really get a grip of the game and our defense was very poor at times. GOB had his worst performance in a Salford shirt, but he never let any mistakes plague his mind to his credit. Sau and Carney were the only players that really looked like they were capable of busting their defensive line.
For all the negatives we actually won, which probably says more about Widnes than it does us. I think morale-wise the victory today will do the lads a world of good. It shows that if they work hard they'll get the results, and sticking with it rather than giving in will provide you with opportunities.
A win is a win as they say, and it gives us a small glimmer of hope at that eight spot.

Yes,we ground out the victory and it's a game that most years we'd have lost. Disagree about Dobbo. I thought he bossed it. JJ also stood out. GOB made a couple of errors, one was just bad luck and flukey, but he responded well and tidies up behind the lines. Widnes have forgotten how to win and it'll be interesting to see how our very own Denis Betts sorts it out

The VR decision time was Long on Vidot's second, and Dobbo seemed to have acres of space and little pressure for that kick! And G O'B was fine and mistakes happen.

Kopczak was MoM for me. 77 mins in the front row and really stood up and got through a lot of work. Josh Jones had a decent game, as did Carney. Thought that our 3 pivots had a relatively quiet game. For their standards. We gave away far too many penalties in that first half, whereas we only have away 1 in the second. Great comeback though. Hope all today's results go our way now as well

Hope all today's results go our way now as well I'd agree with that about Kopczac. I was of a mind that the ref was an RFL stooge in the first half but I grew up at half time and a glass of red wine helped(has to RED of course!) which was just as well as my good mood and the games seemed to go together! Jones and Carney did have good games. Probably said far too often but another prop who makes ground and or can do lots of hard graft and game time would come in very handy!

The reason I say that Dobson shouldn't have been MoM:
As our Captain and field manager he never organised the attack properly in the first half, leaving us disjointed at key times. His kicking was also off in the first half. His defensive efforts caused us to concede two tries, and while the sole blame for these tries doesn't lie with him (Lack of communication and other players not supporting him in defense) he is still expected to put in tackles when required. After HT he picked up his game considerably, improved the game management and kicking which lead to us taking the two points. For me, a MoM performance is a player who has done everything required and more for the whole game. Carney and Kopczac fall into this category immediately which is why I don't think Dobson was MoM.
I'm surprised at how much flack I've got for having this view on other sites/media. For some reason, some people seem to think that my criticism of his performance equates to criticism of Dobson fullstop. Which is a little childish as I think he's been great for us this season so far and will probably continue to be so.
An important victory for us, that keeps our hopes alive. Next game is also massive for us. If we win it, and results elsewhere go in our favour, then we'll have a real chance of swiping that eighth spot off Widnes.

Dobson is the type of player who we'd miss desperately if he had a prolonged absence, he's someone you need in a team, no pomp, no ceremony just a good player who in the main does the little things right.

I was very critical of Dobson after the Castleford game. I thought he was a deserved mom yesterday because of how he absolutely controlled the second half and that is what won it for us. He did make a couple of defensive howlers in the first half but he was OK in attack, I think to hold Dobbo responsible for our problems in attack in the first half is harsh. I thought Lui and GOB were poor in attack and made a number of mistakes and wrong decisions in the first half. Kopczak was solid and did well and Carney was immense and I think was the other candidate for mom. Sau also had a really strong game I thought.
I thought Widnes read the Dobson to GOB move really well and closed him down really well. They were on him every time he caught the ball. He did well to get the pass away for Carneys try. Was one of the few times he managed to pass. Will be interesting to see if other teams do the same against us and if Dobson can change the play - cut out pass to take advantage of the player running out of the line to take GOB maybe?
Shocking first half yesterday but we were very good in second and deserved the win

Very surprised we played Bibby in the centres rather than Jones, would help sure up the defence and what a fearsome prospect him and Vidot would be together. We have more than enough back row forwards to move him into the back line and not feel any great loss, never been convinced by Bibby when I've seen him, obviously though Sheens/Watson might be a better judge than me

I was surprised dobson got mom, for me it should have been carney he was immense as we're sau and koppy. He did put some important plays in at important times, which is what he's there for. His lack of defensive abilities do concern me, it's not just him maybe in a better drilled team defence next year he'll improve as it's certainly not just him.
On the result, absolutely made up with that. Scrappy but in the end deserved. Widnes were there own worse enemies first half bombing a few tries but second half I can only think of one half chance for them. Impressed Gob continued to play in a positive way despite his numerous errors! Good mental strength was nice to see
Looking forward to wakey now! We'll have to play better for longer but am optimistic again!
