Yet another crazy notion by the RFL gets the green light, confirmed Toronto and Toulouse will open the magic weekend. www.rugby-league.com/superleague/article/51523/wolfpack--toulouse-to-open-magic-weekendWHY? You'd hope that everyone votes with their feet and only enters the stadium when the game has finished, what a wonderful spectacle that will be on SKY. Newcastle Thunder are the local team and they should have some sort of promotion in this, not just the Toronto (shocked that it isn't Toronto V Leigh) getting every chance at further promoting their cause.

I completely agree that Newcastle Thunder should have been given the nod on this rather than Toronto and Toulouse. The RFL are doing everything they can to shoehorn Toronto in to the Super League as quickly as possible.
I heard that Toulouse were pulling out of the Challenge Cup - possibly a problem with club finances?

Bias is the stinking thing here. Not particularly happy about it, but not surprised by it either...

Read about them pulling out of the CC, wonder if they are just looking for a full on tilt at making SL, doubtful anyone is going to get anywhere near Leigh or Toronto the rest sadly being also rans. Wonder if the other SL teams had to give their blessing for this, wonder what the sweetner is?

Toronto fans are kicking off as their first home game is April 28th and where....... TBA!!😀. The RL strikes again, ground not ready!
The match against Toulouse is also a home match for them, they're not too impressed with the journey! And we complain about getting away from the AJ.

Toronto/ Leigh A are now playing some of their home games in England, so usual RFL forward planning chaos. The Magic w'end game is just one of them.

Although the RFL's issues are largely of their own making, currently I feel sorry for them. The professional game depends on Sky. The money Sky input allows not only the SL teams but all professional teams to exist as they do. Annoy Sky and there is not a queue of other sponsors. So Sky have to be kept on-side. All teams depend on a rich benefactor: annoy them and the club can go. Leeds have, IMO, the only financial stability in RL. So the owners have to be kept on-side. Even the good doctor was tolerated. We do not have the international calendar to attract TV and other sponsors. Much of this is down to the attitude of NRL (check out the furore over the game planned for Denver) but that attitude cannot be ignored by our RFL.
In 201- the professional sport of RL cannot use the models many of us grew up with in the 70's, 80's and 90's (or before). We are the 5th most popular sport according to ticket sales: 2.3 million sales. Rugby Union is more successful but that is down to the international aspect of that game (and, probably, interesting crowd numbers). 5.5 million tickets.
We cannot ignore any way we can get into the media. Yes, it's flawed and, yes, it's poorly managed; but, if you were the CEO, what would you do? By the way, the post [at the time of writing] for SL is open as Wood has gone.

Has Wood really gone; can't be a promotion.
Hear what you say HB but most things the RL does in team development are short term disasters. There needs to be a 10 year consolidated plan with a proper structure and rules. Look what Wakefield have gotten away with for years with their ground, whilst we lost ours in good faith, and Toronto no ground until next May. It seems also that the RL is run by and for the benefit of Leeds & Wigan.
For the money they are paying surely there is someone out there who can de this sport justice.

This is a complete and utter joke. Boycott the first match by all fans . Also Toronto fans moaning> ?? do me a favour. they have 13 away games on the trot. No travelling back and forwards for them across the pond. Advantage number 1. Then they have 12/13 HOME MATCHES on the trot. where the away teams will have to fly out asap after there last match, then fly back straight away because of there next match. Jet lag and all the that, what chance does any team stand against a bunch of thugs. Or are they playing there first 13 matches away? ? because they can not get Visas for some of there top players, and are hoping that they are so far infront of the rest of the division that they will n ot have to fight for the visas for some of the thugs they have signed.
