If you could go back in time and watch a game again. What game would it be.I have picked a game from 1957 v St Helens this was the time of one devision Saints came to the Willows on the back of I think a 15 game unbeaten run.The great Tom Van Volenhoven had just signed for them and the papers were saying he was the fastest man in the league Salford were on a big loosing run after a great backs to the wall effort by the Reds Saints winning run came to an end 12 8 and Volenhoven found out he was not the fastest man in the league, and that are own Wally Mcarthur was.

Apart from ending Wigan’s cup run and the last 10 minutes of the MPG, then it’d be any game which involved Charlton,Fielding,Hesketh,Watkins,Richards,Gill,Banner,Dixon and Coulman all on the pitch at the same time !

When we ended Wigan's cup domination for me. Or any match where I could see James Lomas perform in his prime. Not that I've ever seen any game from that era, would just love to have seen him play.

The two best, Wembley as a youngster, just going and the closure of the pies 40 game cup run.
But there was a run of 4 cup games 3 great and one awful. Drawing with and then beating Saints, beating Wigan in the next round at Wigan, I think Frank Collier scored a try in the Ben channel and then.......losing at Dewsbury, spoke to Paul Murphy about this and he did say they chose the wrong person to kick goals, but I remember a big fat Dewsbury prop rolling down the famous slope and killing us off (I think!)
Hammering Saints and beating Cas recently weren't bad (thanks MK!)

Was at those games. We should have beaten Dewsbury. You mention the great Frank Collier. While he was with us he was Jackie Brennan's minder. We should have gone to Wembley that year thats for sure.

A couple of matches in the cup at Featherstone, the 1st a low scoring game in which Billy Burgess got us through with a late try, he got seriously injured scoring it, I'm unsure but I don't think he ever played again.
The 2nd match a couple of years later at Featherstone, they had a even meaner pack, Les Tonks, Bridges and co also a young Steve Nash at scrum half, he was leading us a merry dance in the first half and at half time I remember they had a good lead over us.
Something had to be done, up steps messers Dixon and Prescott, out went Mr Nash carried off on a stretcher, to this day don't know what they done, but it worked and we went on to win.

So many choices.
When Jason Critchley was cleaned out by Richard Webster at the Willows.
Away game in the bitter cold at Batley where O'conner made his debut and had to have his hair cut at half time by Andy Gregory because it was frozen.
Ending Wigans run in the cup.
A game V Huddersfield at the Willows where we were that dominant we got a drop out from tackling them backwards until Coley flattened someone in the ingoal ara.
A personal one was when playing amateur RL met a team from Yonnerland who had Brendan Hill playing, remember getting the odious task of fronting him on every tackle.

Not been many decent games with meaning to revisit in my lifetime.
The MPG just doesn’t do it for me, yes it was one of the most exciting finishes to a game I’ve ever witnessed and the elation was incomparable but the whole meaning of the game just doesn’t sit right with me.
The two that stand out are;
1. Ending Wigan’s cup run for obvious reasons.
2. The 1990 premiership final at OT when we proved we were the best team that year, after Halifax constantly bitching and claiming they were the better team.

My Dad's still got that Premiership game on VHS. Including Peter Brown going ape-sh1t and fighting everyone after the final hooter. Ha ha. It was a great game.

Cracking game - I’ve also got this on VHS in my dad’s loft somewhere. Remember the Tex Evans try where him and Gibson went back and forth for for the length of the pitch - a few minutes after they had run into each other trying to catch a high bomb! Remember being there as it was about as close as I’ve ever been to seeing my mild mannered dad get in a scrap. (Been a memeber of various iterations of this board over the years and thought this was as good a time as any to get involved again)
