Surprised this has gone under the radar this week as it is troubling, we have all long said the club should get out into the wider Greater Manchester community not just on a few local schools in Salford. Seems now we have been gazumped by Toronto and our old friend Vickers. While I appreciate they have a much bigger budget than we have surely getting the club out there would be a self perpetuating spend bringing in new talent and fans. www.totalrl.com/vickers-maps-out-torontos-vision-to-boost-rugby-league-in-manchester/

With regards this initiative from Toronto let’s see what actually takes place as Martin Vickers wasn’t the best at following through with what appeared to be good ideas when he was our CEO was he? If they are having there HQ at the MMU it’s a free country and they have to set it up somewhere in the UK.

Salford should have been targeting audiences in south Manchester for years but never bothered. It's ripe for bringing in potential new fans. An ailing local football team, plenty of disposable income in a few areas and a large population just around the M60. No other sports really bother in south Manchester, probably due to football's grip on people's money, however, the grip isn't as strong there as people imagine.

Nearer to the ground in Urmston Flixton and Davyhulme the local rag and local advertising apparently shows a lot about Sale RU but nothing about Salford and a lot of those people are just one motorway junction away from the ground, in fact nearer to the ground than most people living in Salford.
You're right about Vickers lots of wind but little action. Basically it seems that Toronto have got a training ground and put a lot of froth round it, probably for the sake of the University. Salford should however jump on the back of this and offer them Superleague rugby.
It would be interesting to see how many people from Manchester attend Toronto's home matches!

Its pretty crazy tbh. I come from Stockport and in my sons school they’ve had both Leeds Rhinos and Warrington Wolves come in to teach and promote their clubs respectively but never Salford. There was even a trip last year to a Warrington Wolves game with 100+ pupils with teachers with some i believe buying season tickets for next year. There’s clearly an untouched market for it but it’s madness why we’re not getting in their.

I'm from Stockport originally and it's an untapped source for fans. The local football has gone down the pan and Sale have buggered-off to the AJ. The only competition any SL club would have is the Amateur RU. There are plenty of City and Utd fans to, but so many people with no affiliation and no sport to entice them. In Salford's case, it's been a point of not bothering their arses. The club has always been very sloppy in this regard.

Have to agree with Carnster and TTMM for all the club says it is getting into schools it is in the main targeting schools that already have a Salford interest, have long said that each and every Salford player should have it in their contract that they have to visit 3 schools or amateur clubs per week.
I know I sound like a broken record but the club should be targeting certain areas of the community, there is an increasingly large immigrant community in Salford and the larger area, the kids often just want a sense of belonging so give them Salford, give them RL and entice the families with the prospect with a safe and welcoming family atmosphere where belonging will give the kids something to aspire too.

As far as I know the club do go into schools in south Manchester as well as north Manchester including the Bury area and the players do assist that why we have the under 16s.Sometimes the foundation should get credit for what they do with limited resources.

Token efforts every so often in non-RL areas isn't good enough for a club that is desperate to grow its fan base. Yes, the foundation do good things and deserve the praise for what they do with limited resources, but the club itself should be devoting more time, money and effort to promoting the club in non-RL areas around GMR. If they do very little, they can't whine that nobody new is turning up. This was the problem when Blease and MK were gobbing-off at the fans last season for not getting on board. All they really did was slag-off those that were already going. Exposure takes effort, and the club is a little shy when it comes to putting in the effort long term.
