Whilst we have just one game left (unless the top three teams are docked 10 points each for being too good) we can muse the league structure over the off season which is v poor in its present form and puts too many clubs under stress.
So, following on from Dixon (yes!) 14 teams. How about 14 teams and at the end of the season:
Top 4 play off, home and away, to find the Grand Finalists...6/7 games
Next 8 play off, one match against each other club, top 2 play off for the RL Plate...7/8 games
Bottom 2 play off against top 2 from Championship, home and away, 1st stays, 2nd & 3rd in Million pound game...6/7 games
More games, closer games probably, more stability, more top teams in the league, something for all to play for, and we'd be in the play offs!

To be honest, I don't think the current system is that bad. It just needs time to settle in, you can't go restructuring every 2 or 3 years.
If you went for a closed shop, franchise-type system, then I don't think it's fair on the teams in the lower divisions. Alternatively, a one up one down system doesn't give the promoted team much time to prepare for life in SL, all the best players being signed up, panic buying etc. etc.
The current system is somewhere in between the two, it gives teams in the Championship targeting SL to have a go first - then maybe go one better the season afterwards, like Leigh did.
The only thing I'd change, for the time being, is the Top 8 points being set back to zero following the split.

What I cannot agree with is a team who comes 9th in SL being threatened with relegation. If we'd have been 9th this year we'd have been in trouble. Totally unfair.
The other point is that whereas SL teams at the end of the season are shot, Championship teams as in Leigh last season and Hull kr this can cruise to the playoffs thus having a distinct advantage.

Personally I still would have the bottom team or teams down and promotions in the time honoured manner. The question now who do we want to survive.

Fairness and merit does not come into it. The RFL opted for jeopardy until the last, and they’ve got it.

The obvious fault with this structure is that the points from the regular season are carried over.
A simple solution revert to the good old days and give the winners at the end of the regular season the trophy and set up a new round robin league of the top 8, the final 4 go into a sudden play off and have the final at some ropey football stadium and find a different name for the trophy.
The real problem lies in up & down scenario, I am a firm believer that a newly promoted team should be given 2 seasons to allow them a first season to acclimatise. If all SL teams survive the drop then there the 2 year option is scrapped IE only invoked if a team from a lower league gains promotion to give them the best possible chance of making a go of it.

Adopt the NRL system . it is so simple, Top 8 into play offs, first week, 1 v 3 2 v 4. winner straight into the semi finals. 5 v 7 6 v 8. losser is out, winners into semis. play semis winners into final. It would of given teams like us and wakey a chance to be in the finals this year, but the way it is structed at the moment it gives the teams with big squads to come good and cheat there way into the so called top four at the end of the season. What amazed me was wigan were in 8th place could of even been lower when it was announced they would be playing a super league fixture against Hull next season in AUS. What would of happened if they were in the million pound game and lost it, ? OH sorry it is wigan not a chance. As for common sense , as Scoot says not a f in chance while the idiots in charge of the RFL are in Red Hall.
