Like a rejected boyfriend givin' it large about being maligned and misunderstood the game is less interesting now than in the past. Well. I don't agree and I think now wasn't the time or the place cos it just looks sour grapey. It's very easy to look like you're coaching it into more interesting when your available funds and quality of players is up there with the best. And when other teams in your league are easy pick offs your team can look as entertaining, exciting and positive as it comes. More or less all coaches follow the safe game plan approach and that has been what hinders RL at times and it's also relative to the possession/position play-off that our game lends itself to. Remember the soup advert from years ago - "He had big ears anyway!" well that's what this sounds like from Tony as far as I'm concerned. Please feel free to disagree below! I'm trying to distract you from dwelling on Friday - being miserable is not a good look! See!

The fact is, it is sour grapes otherwise he'd have said it months or years ago. I think he's been good for our game but is slowly heading for the knackers yard.

I think he has a point, the game is not as entertaining now as it once was, when we went from finesse and skill to a team full of forwards it lost some of the appeal for me.
Can you see Kevin Buddha McGuinness or Gary Broadbent being as successful today as they were a few years ago?

Can you see Kevin Buddha McGuinness or Gary Broadbent being as successful today as they were a few years ago? I agree with this. There are far too many "20 minute players". Cut the number of interchanges - or make them genuine substitutions, ie. once taken off for an injury, a player cannot return to the field. I even have a bizarre idea to deal with the "fake injury" scenario. If the player plays the following week, the team have one point deducted. So, if say, BMM goes off injured, Salford have a choice for the following week - play him and lose a point or rest him (he's injured anyway?). Probably wouldn't be a popular move and would certainly help teams with large squads. While having a rant, I'll return to the "team full of forwards" idea. When did it become rational to think that a forward can play stand-off, or centre, or full-back, or, frankly, anywhere other than in the pack? Aaaaaand, breathe. Rant over. Enjoy the rest of your weekends.

"When did it become rationale for a forward to play stand off"
I can only remember as far back as Farrell and Sculthorpe?

Although, it would have always ended up that way anyway. I wouldn't say the game isn't as entertaining, it's just changed.

Wilkins does it regularly and Lee played scrum half for us for about 3 months. Think Flanagan has done it in the past.
Don't mention Noble all I can think when he's mentioned is the way he destroyed the Club; Steyn ok with it though.

I also believe Smith has a point. Too many sides are predictable in attack and most finish an attacking set with an up and under or high kick to the wing. There is little craft or imagination and why sides often score from a move from broken play as defences are unsure how to react.

I think Smith makes some good points in his recent comments about the play offs and the million pound game. Link these with what Betts says and I can see that, as it has done with Salford, restricts development and produces pointless fixtures.

Link these with what Betts says and I can see that, as it has done with Salford, restricts development and produces pointless fixtures. The trouble with this is that they say it because they are involved in it. When they were not involved they never said a word. For things to change, coaches need to speak up on behalf of those clubs struggling at the lower end of the table. If the dissenting voices were one instead of just a couple of the clubs involved then maybe things would change. The trouble with our game is that clubs just act in their own interests generally. That's why it's so difficult to implement functional and positive changes in our game.

For me it's Mr wood and his friends they couldn't run a tombola stall.Relegation should be two up two down and a fourteen teat league structure.Let's all hope Castleford win the grand final for the way Powell as got them playing the game. Also I read somewhere the great Kenny Gill as never watched the game for years thats someone I am sure Tony Smith would have paid to watch.
