Poor performance. Out enthused by Cas in every department. We looked like a team that was thirty points up for most of the game and had little ideas when going forward. I thought our forwards got bullied and apart from Sau, our backs had little penetration all match. One thing that match once again highlighted was the need for a quality hooker who can boss and keep a defense on its toes.
It also highlights, for me, how we are in need of someone like a Paul Gallen who leads from the front when it gets tough and guides, intimidates, and arm wrestles their team back into games.

Season over. I feel like crying yet the players didn't look like they gave one, in performance atleast
Most down I have felt about salford for a long time, thought this was a perfect chance to go somewhere. Yet again salford let us down.
Same old same old, one day I'll learn

Very disappointing. Their forwards bullied us completely which gave McShane the freedom to play. Dobson and Lui on the other hand looked like they hadn't played together previously. Cohesion and timings were off throughout the game. Only positive I can think of is that we will have a few weekends where we won't be playing, so we can rest up and prepare for the league games. A performance against Saints on Friday is now a must.

Prepare for what? Middle 8s?? No positives whatsoever come on, don't be so fickle. Yes today was very disappointing but remember it was only last week that we battered the same Rovers team that put 58 on Castleford, and if we're successful in the appeal (and I hear there is some new evidence in our favour) then we're back in the top 8. Even if we don't get any points back in the appeal then we can still make the 8 anyway. League is now our only focus.

Not watched on tv,but best side won by a country mile. I thought we gave everything but Cas played better, they'd done their homework and the high kicks to the corner killed us. Surprisingly,we were still in it until the Solomona full length try. Impressed how BMM tried to chase him down. I'm not a Phil Joseph fan but he played very well. We have 3 identikit forwards in the Walnes and Krasniqi. We need to improve quality in that department. We'd have won had it been at home but my aunty would have been my uncle if she'd had b**ll**s

I'm a sports fan, being fickle is what I do! If we beat saints next week i'll no doubt be swinging from the lampposts But, currently I feel like shoite. I feel like I've felt pretty much every year for the last 35. We had a team out today to beat cas, if that same group of players had been wearing saints or wigan shirts, they would have won. It's just salford. Same old. Same old. A

Very disappointed with the performance today. I honestly thought Cas were there for the taking given the injuries in their squad.
For me, that was Dobson's worst performance in a Salford shirt by a distance, but in all fairness there aren't too many players that come out of that game with a positive.
I think the lack of a genuine hooker really stood out. Phil Joseph is not a hooker and his tackling at times was quite shoddy. It also makes you realise how important Tommy Lee and Logan Tomkins are to the team in that role.
Vidot - a bit ring rusty but will hopefully build on that performance. My worry is that we now seem to have 2 wingers which are vulnerable under the high ball. Cas targeted Carney in the first half, and Vidot in the second. There were a few too many heart in mouth moments for my liking.
Fair play to Cas, they played well without needed to get out of first gear. Plenty of offloads and huge gains on their carries, plus 2 tries straight from Salford kick offs. Not acceptable.
Onwards and (hopefully) upwards.

Cas played us very well considering they had about 6 first teamers not playing.
We really missed a recognised 9 today and also a pack leader when the tough got going and they started to dominate.
Hope Sau is ok as he's been a breathe of fresh air and really deserves some credit and pulling his socks up this year.
Really thought we would've had this in the bag by half time but that's RL for you we just didn't turn up as a team and the best team won.

I think you looked at the Cas team sheet and thought you were on a good thing today and we did look to be ready for the taking. Probably made worse by how easily you scored the first try and it was looking like damage limitation for us. Salford seem to be a very heavyweight team (not fat) all across the park and I wonder if thats why they tired as Cas hardly used the last 2 subs. I can see why people are disappointed though as when you beat us at the jungle I thought you looked the real deal and was expecting you to kick on. Once again James Child provided the low point of the game from my point of view. When Milner picked up the loose ball and set off Child didn't blow until Milner was almost there. When Milner got back and protested that he hadn't touched the ball Childs said "its a scrum". Millington then say's "can't you have look at the screen" to whch Childs in his usual arrogant way says "I don't need to, I'll watch it tomorrow". However he did seem to even it up by allowing the Denny "no try"

However he did seem to even it up by allowing the Denny "no try" I think Cas out-enthused us. We didn't seem to get out of second gear and a lot of that was down to Cas forwards being dominant. Once you got that domination I don't think you ever looked like losing, and we never looked like winning that arm wrestle. We badly missed someone to look after McShane and it highlights our big weakness in not having a really decent hooker. Our backs were relied upon to dig out hard metres rather than break lines in attack and Lui and Dobson didn't quite gel as they usually do. Hats-off to Cas though. You played it smart, hard, and with bags of enthusiasm. Deserved victors on this occasion.

We seriously need to bring in some big prop forwards next season, Castleford quite rightly as Watson said in his after match interview 'Bullied us'. Our defence is an absolute shambles there were so many occasions today when our players were making minimal contact with the opposition players and were being simply brushed aside. The only players who has a decent game defensively were Sa'u, Jones and Krasniqi.
The most annoying thing for me today was how Paul McShane was aloud to play in a dinner jacket the whole game. Our pressure on their kickers was absolutely appalling. I honesty think our players are a great group of lads and if we can keep them together for the next 2/3 seasons with a few astute additions we can challenge at the top but could you say there are a bit too nice? We need to be more aggressive in defence and put some bigger shots on, this is Rugby League for gods sake, SMASH THEM!
Take nothing away from Castleford though they were brilliant today and as Carnster said they out-enthused us. Paul McShane and Denny Solumona looked like world beaters.

Dog turd. I see posters are reacting to the lack of a prominent No9. In simple terms, you aren't wrong, but we didn't lose this game due to Phil Joseph deputising in this rather unfamiliar role. This game was lost before a ball was kicked. Cameron Smith could have played yesterday and we still wouldn't have won. Castleford was hungrier and more mentally focused giving them desire to outdo and out-aggress an ill minded lathargic Salford team. Sheens and Watson must start taking some of the responsibility's, as failing to inspire these set's of players is becoming more evident as the season pans out.
Leaving their Ego's at the door has obviously been hugely misunderstood by the players, for they've left their heart's and desires instead. A little bit of Ego wouldn't go a miss at present. We play Saints soon, and Saints will be itching for revenge, some of these players need to start looking in the mirror and asking themselves "could I of given more'' and I think you'll find admittedly, 17 guilt ridden faces. It doesn't look promising when mentality is clearly Salford's own worst enemy.
Ah well, there goes another typical season.

It doesn't look promising when mentality is clearly Salford's own worst enemy. Ah well, there goes another typical season. Fair assessment. I actually thought Joseph played okay in a role he doesn't normally play. Desire is a good word, and they certainly lacked it. All teams will be put on the back foot at some point and the ones that rise to the top of the pile are those teams that find ways to get off that back foot. I didn't think we had anyone on the field capable of galvanizing the group to work harder and try to win that forward arm wrestle. We've got a set of young forwards that would greatly benefit from a real hard, experienced leader to bully, inspire, and lead by example. Either in a hooker or Prop/loose role. The kind of player that lifts those around him to double their efforts. We simply can't carry on expecting our big backline to make those hard yards all the time. Sure, some of the time, but our pack needs to win the go-forward in attack and put their opposing numbers into the dirt much more than they are doing. Mentality is a tough one in team sport, as it relies heavily on collective effort and there's no secret formula. I actually think we have gone a little far in the youth direction and would benefit from a few older players in key roles to kick arses, push the players around them, and inspire.

Yep; I partly agree with your diagnosis, but in principle these forwards have mixed it with the Wires, Wigans, Saints and Leeds and matched them this season when their minds have been focused on the job in hand. So these forwards have proven they're worthy of decent performances. So the flops at both Hull clubs, Wakefield, both Catalans games, and this Castleford cup game yesterday, have all been pure lapses in desire when intricately probing the analysis. I know that when playing a weekly sport, it's impossible to perform at your peak each week, but for goodness sake, it doesn't stop your desire to win as well.
The youth in our team is a valid point, it's crying out for a Pack Leader, and this isn't hindsight either, this situation was hugely ignored by our recruitment staff. A massive error in our recruitment drive pre-season not signing at least a Pack leader especially with such a young squad. The problem which stares me in the face is probably the most contributing factor to our beaten pack, and that's the lack of quality coming off the bench. With the exception of Lannon, our bench really does lack punch which is probably why we're on the cusp of Eighth spot. There's no doubting and everybody's complaining about our strength in depth this year, to which Sheens has to be accountable for. Points are gold dust and the difference between staying up or down, and by not recruiting properly heavily detriments our destiny or fate which was a risky decision by Sheens opting for his chosen path. I'm sure next years recruits has been under the microscope and heavily scrutinized.
