I've read a lot on here recently and lots of it makes sense however some post have really got my goat. I'm glad the New forum exists without the bitching so please understand this is my view.
I think this season has been a massive success, watto was obviously charged with loading the start of the season and get us safe. We now have a lot of busted bodies and a really small squad, with no academy to back it up we're struggling sThis happened to cas and wakey a couple of years ago.
The bigger teams know how to play the game, peak at the right time. We don't have a squad yet for that. I've no doubt we've backed off now due to injuries and started planning for next year. Recruitment is key, dobbo replacement. Is massive and a few critical signings need to be made. Signing during season have been good. Tyrone looks good and manu worries everyone. Need to bolster pack tho. Think remaining games give gob chance to stake claim for half back, which is right!
Keep perspective, next year is key. Targets will be different and bigger squad
Bring on fartowm

Quite a bit of what you say there leads me again to say we would have ended the season in a much different fashion if we stills had Sheens involved as he would have managed the players better earlier in the season and he would identified the need for different plays and tactics.
Can only say it has been a season of two parts, in the first part we were a champion team bristling with confidence and looked capable of beating anyone. In the latter part we look shot and scared to take the field as they know they are already beaten.
We need incredibly astute recruitment, for me we need one 'name' to replace Dobson and maybe another one if we sign a block busting back but more than anything we need people who bring no baggage, buy into the teams work ethic and are happy to be part of a squad and not dummy spitters if they are not playing week in week out.
At some point in the off season Watson needs to make a difficult decision is it GOB or Evalds? Both can't play and neither is a viable bench warmer unless we start using Brining for 80.
Think people forget we have Murray who looks ready to be a regular SL starter and if Mossop is going to play he needs to be managed and not played week in week out just because he is so good, for me if he gets another shoulder injury I'd cut him loose as it's all well and good being so talented as he is but if his body is gone he is not worth the expense.
I know this might not be what people want to hear but if there is a Salford next season we need to ensure a top 8 as doubt we can seriously go for a top 4 (though it would be a bonus) and build a steady year in year out regular no drama finals football.

Think we need some speed and mobility.
Jones and BMM need to lose a couple of stone each (Jones and Hauraki could become props), Hauraki needs to get involved more, seems a passenger at times, Griffin needs to get back to the way he used to play. The good thing is Lannon, Murray and Bibby seem to have come on this year and Bent is said to be improving.
But agree need 2 new half backs a penetrating centre, a second row, a couple of props and few Murray types to develop. Remember we've lost at least 5 players from this year's roster and no new young players coming through. Sadly I think Mossop is finished, for a prop a shoulder injury is the worst and he's had them for four years.

I've always been pretty underwhelmed by Hauraki and it's surprised me how long he's stayed and played for us. He's not a bad player, he just doesn't show enough spark often enough for me. Jones was very good early on but seems to be exchanging movement for love handles and if he continues down the road he's on he may become the first zero-mobile RL player in SL. Griffin seems to have started the second half of the season by training backwards and I think you're right with regards to Mossop's glass shoulders. Quite a lot of recruitment required this off-season, and the young lads waiting in the wings need to continue their hard work.

Quite a few of the players do seem to have taken to the Greggs sausage roll diet rather well of late. BMM and JJ need to start next season leaner and stay leaner not increase weight as the season progresses.

Totally agree regarding JJ. We are so in need of a quality centre who is mobile and can defend, unlike Wellham.

The way I look at the season.. Ten minutes to go in the million pound game, if I'd said to you we were going to get 4th in the league (proper league, not this stupid top 8 crap) and a semi final in the CC then you'd probably have had me committed. But we did, and that's a phenomenal achievement for Salford in a very challenging and competitive league.
Yes things have tailed off and clearly the squad is still not a fully refined SL challenging squad but lets be realistic. We are playing against teams that have been building their squads properly for years with strong academies to build from. The mad doctor tried to buy his way to the top with all the mercenaries and it failed miserably setting us back 2 years or so, this squad has only been playing for two years and is still lacking in depth for quality players when needing to rotate. But I think it is still a good start for building, just needs a couple of extra quality players.
And yes have to agree, the fitness does seem to be a little more cake than beef second half of the season, that needs to be rectified.
