Just watched a bit of a S African RU games and Leigh v Hull kr. In the RU match the ref went back to the video ref often to check things he was uncertain about. At one stage he awarded a try but then got the video ref to check a no of things; 2 forward passes, no try ( of course, for some reason our vr's can't check forward passes). He then looked at a no of decisions that the ref missed and helped him, correct decisions given.Really professional.
Smith, cost Leigh the game. A Hull kr forward near his own line lost the ball to a loose carry, everybody saw it, but ball steal given against Leigh. No intervention by vr. Hull kr then went down the field and Lunt scored from an illegal play the ball, again which we and the commentators saw. The vr ref couldn't check it we were told!
Nobody's expecting the ref to get the decision right all the time BUT when the decision is wrong, it's seen by everybody on tv and can be changed, why does vr not intervene. Another RL management cock up. RU get it right again, we look idiots.

Smith cost Leigh the game, totally As you rightly said,The HKR play the ball from which Lunt went over was identical to one in the Cas game where the bloody idiot in the middle gave a penalty against us,when we were playing the ball. Had the video ref checked the ptb,it would've been disallowed. They said he's not allowed to check that. If that's true it's bollocks

What a joke of a decision! Didn't play the ball and then the VR cannot check??? This is why I am becoming disillusioned with the game.

I agree. It is farcical. The reason I've heard given for not referring forward passes to the vr is that the camera angle can prove inconclusive. There was one in the Wakey game the other night. Looked fine from a couple of angles but not from a third. What baffles me is that they use the same camera angles to determine on side/off side and that's acceptable.
