NOT to mention up to 7 years bird for possession: yes, it could have been at a party or at a friend's but once hooked...

He's been banned from ALL sports for 2 years after testing positive for Cocaine. How quickly will everyone clammer all over mental health, RL needs to do more and we should help him. Just feel like he's a bit of a tit.

Heard Hock (who sadly had a drugs problem) has retired as well. Two really inspired signings by 'I will sort them out' Noble.

Rangi Chase is one of the best players to play RL in recent years. He obviously has problems and needs help. People on here slagging off someone who they do not know and have no hint of his physical and mental condition is in my view pretty low.

I agree with having enjoyed his skills even when destroying us. However, the majority of statements are far from slagging him off: the most critical is that he could be an "idiot" in refusing help. There's a lot of sympathy in many posts and several comments on what help should be given.
I'm hoping that someone, who had sport at the centre of his being for so long, can be assisted when that motivation to get out of bed has been removed.

Rangi Chase is one of the best players to play RL in recent years. He obviously has problems and needs help. People on here slagging off someone who they do not know and have no hint of his physical and mental condition is in my view pretty low. I think the harshest comment was that he's been an idiot for throwing away his chances. That isn't slagging him off it's a statement of fact. He is a product of his environment...Tough Family life from a poor working class background in a place where his culture wasn't given the respect it deserves. Sport as an only option for a guy who's abilities only point in that direction. An NRL wage and little to no support system in Australia leads plenty of young talent astray and it did for him. A move to the other side of the world and he's hailed a flawed genius and now that lack of a support system coupled with ego creates an unstoppable ball rolling where his behaviour, mental problems, and common sense choices will only lead him in one direction.
His 'problems' stem from a number of sources. Lack of common sense, ego, mental illness, life choices, history. It's far too easy these days to wrap up problem behaviour in one nice and tidy 'Mental illness' package. After all, there's plenty of people suffered exactly the same disadvantages, mental illness, poor life choices, and worse. Yet manage to pull themselves around to change their outcomes.
So the proper answer is, yes, he's an idiot. He's also someone who suffers with mental illness. He's someone who's made mistakes. He's someone who's done good also. He's a human being with all the same attributes and flaws as everyone else. I'm just not a fan of wrapping up all anti-social behaviour and giving it a label for us all to digest in a more wholesome way. Behaviour is complicated...

In the case of Rangi. I went to an away match in Yorkshire and took hospitality sharing a table with a lovely couple and the lady was a friend of Rangi's mother in law. When I asked her about Rangi the person she reluctantly told of the way Rangi treated his family, it was awful and eventually he was thrown out of his home. Nobody forces anybody to drink or take white powder but if they do then they have to take responsibility to control it. From what I could gather Rangi was offered and given lots of support but he chose a different path. Nobody knows the full story and it is sad when somebody with such talent finishes up where Rangi has, but he made his choice. Hock, Hardacre, Chase in my view can only blame themselves.
Todd Carney did stupid things and lost his career but after a long journey making more mistakes, has after hard work, made his way back into society and rugby at a lower level. He chose a different path.
In the end we all have to take responsibility for ourselves rather than blame our problems on others and expect society to take responsibility for solving them. Help is always there but we have to chose to use it, which is usually a hard path.
