We all know Nial is not a winger. But was is the lad to do With Carney and Wellham both going further inside the field to try and close the game down. Cas throw it out to the center or winger and Nial has not got a chance. keep our formation stop grabing at fresh air. Not much difference on the other wing to be honest just that Cas play down there left most of the time and Nial copped it tonite.

Sorry but Todd Carney should be on next plane home. Contributes very little, and defensively terrible. Cas highlighted our complete lack of pace. Niald had a stinker. Murray a definite positive. Expect Hasson will be on his way, leaving us in a position to get Tyrone McCarthy. Hard to win with only two first choice props and no Flanagan. Confident that if we get everyone back bar Mossop who is unlikely to play again this year we can turn Wigan over. Looking forward to seeing Vatuvei running at Joe Burgess.!!!

Thought Murray was excellent and looks to be a handy and well spotted signing. Lui was good. We were second best on the edges. Bibby is learning Jones is a bit hit and miss at the moment. We missed Sau and Johnson and Evalds just isn't a decent winger. I suppose if you put Olpherts and Johnson, then Sau and Vauvei on the other side it starts to look a lot better. The RFL need to start stamping down on players constantly talking to the ref and appealing continually. Cas players were surrounding the ref all night. Add to this the constant screams from the stands of 'forward ' for every single pass. Every tackle against a Cas player was high and we are always offside apparently. Bumbling officials then make this a game that was basically impossible to win.

Shenton and Gale give Sam Tomkins a run for his money as biggest whinger in SL.

Also thought hauraki was outstanding last night, put a real shift in. Lui's distribution was good from ptb. All in all a much improved performance, definitely areas to improve and far too many mistakes (from both sides in fairness), but with 1 or 2 bodies back and a few calls going our way we could have had that.

Niall will no doubt get the flak for last night but I hope IW now realises that he is not a winger and is wasted there. Better performance than the Leeds one but it is showing now how small our squad really is take a few players out and we are fooked. Bad thing was total lack of pace and Inventiveness from our backs. The old discipline problem re emerged again last night as well, Cas are good enough a team without us giving a 14-3 penalty count. So Leigh next week to finish in the top four and a semi final the week after, whatever happens this has still been a amazing season.

Hauraki is a strange one for me. When he's on form he's a great runner and defender, but he seems to give an awful lot of penalties away. I'm not sure he's offering enough every week, but then puts in a decent performance last night. Bit of an enigma for me. He's certainly no Hasson, but he's no BMM either...

Without going too much into last night but just a few points if I may.
1) You know it's going to be a bad night when Evalds takes the ball into touch from their 1st kick.
2) Evalds had an absolute 'mare. I really like the lad but he has to play FB for me. Either that or I think he'd make a decent interchange hooker. His positional sense on the wing is awful.
3) Our discipline needs sorting and quickly. As **** as Bentham was we were culpable a fair bit, especially late in the tackle count which is so annoying. Cas will score 50% of the time off back to back sets so you just can't gift them cheap pens.
4) Soft defence. Far too many of those tries could have been avoided by nailing the 1st man and stopping the offload. Not in a million years should Roberts have scored his try it was just poor 1 on 1 defence.
5) Can someone please show our backs how to slide over the line from 5 metres out on a greasy pitch?! We bomb so many tries from poor finishing technique.
I was actually really disappointed last night as we could have got something from that game IMO against a very good Cas side. We HAVE to cut out the stupid errors and cheap penalties. If we do we're a match for anyone but against the top teams in the playoffs we'll be found wanting if we gift teams soft ball.
Positives? Agree that Murray was excellent and needs more game time. This squad is 3 or 4 astute signings from being a very good team. Hope we can get Vatuvei on the pitch ASAP if fit as he will add that extra something we've missed since Carney left.

Watched the game on Sky last night. I didn't think we were that bad, it's just silly mistakes that cost us really, and some dodgy defence out wide. It was always going to be tough going to Cas the way they're playing at the minute, so I'm not too disappointed - as long as we beat Leigh next week and secure our top 4 spot.

The criticism of Carney by alaura is barmy. I presume he (alaura) missed the Widnes & Warrington matches where he (TC) was electrifying.
Think the Evalds to Hooker is a clever one as hes no winger and GOB retains FB.
Murray deserves more time but we have to be more streetwise when we play Cas again - the worked move to the left has to be countered next time & Gale has to constrained by a couple of big forwards flying out of the line.

I'd like to see some evidence that Evalds can pass the ball both well enough and consistently enough around the ptb to play at Hooker. Perhaps a link to a video of him anybody? Thanks, Jimmy

Early bath, I have been to every game this year. Todd Carney played well against Warrington, but they were so poor anyone would have looked good. Widnes again he came on when the game was already won by half time. What about his ineffectual performance at Catalan and St Helens and last night. I would rather use an overseas place for a position we need to cover, for example the centre where we desperately need some pace. Gareth O Brien can cover the halves.

Alaura, the positions any team needs cover most is in the half backs.
Look what happened to Warrington, St Helens, Widnes, Huddersfield where they had no cover early season. Or look what happened to us when Lui was on one leg last year or the year before with no Dobson and the Lee had to cover.
Sorry I think Carney, although not used to the plays, is essential cover. By the way remember his kick which was a match winner against St Helens at home.
I would like to see him after a proper pre- season and on the field at the same time as Lui and Dobbo. And I would like him to be the main kicker. Assuming of course he commits himself. Lui would be good cover for Flanagan as well.
If he does go who is the half back cover; Wood......I don't think so. Not for a couple of years at any rate. Listen to Sheens, our overseas players should be playmakers and finishers. I think his problem is that he's not settled into our system and he's playing in Dobsons shadow.....but I'm sure when he gets time in pre-season he can bring in forward plays on his own. His kicking is immaculate and his passing brilliant.
But I agree he has to start doing more of it and put in more of a tackling stint.

Got home for the latter stages of the first half and all the 2nd.
Evalds is a class full back and brilliant try scorer but after last nights showing should only go elsewhere in the backline as a last resort, how you can be so good one on one yet not work with a centre inside and the touchline outside you is bewildering.
We must MUST find a way of getting BMM involved closer to the opposition try line, even off an amble forwards he makes 10 meters so get him on the back fence and charging onto the crash ball in there 10.
Carney while he has his moments isn't the right fit for Salford, surrounded by brilliant players he has time on the ball but we are not there yet, thanks for the service but toodle pip come seasons end.
Hauraki looks good at loose but he is a penalty machine, I'd try JJ there at a push otherwise it has to be Krasniqi if Flash is out long term and McCarthy takes some time to come over.
GOB is brilliant attacking footballer but teams now have his number, Watson and the rest of the coaching staff need to find a new play for him to be involved with, can see him getting injured in a serious way as he is getting hammered week in week out.
Murray is going to be a gem, him and Brining look like future class acts in a red shirt. Murray does need a bit of help with his discipline as he looks like he gets way too over excited.
Bad day at the office against a very good Cas team, if anyone finished above them in the play offs they've won the whole thing, think the cup exit has helped them considerably.
