Seems the beast could be heading to Salford if you believe what Adam Bower says, he's never been wrong in the past btw. If we could keep him injury free and his head straight, this would be an amazing signing - what a finisher this lad is, utter class. What's everyone's thoughts on him?

Only thing I know about him is his Agent is Peter Brown a kiwi prop who had a couple of season's at Salford in the late Eighties.

Really hope this turns out to be a very astute signing just before the 8s especially as we all know what this guy can do, just hope the injuries and minutes he's played don't show.
Last previous seasons weve had the "key to the Locke and the meter eater" who came with big expectations for SL, but due to be plagued with injuries, very little game time and personal issues just didn't work.
Heres hoping to this panning out very differently.

I think Manu is a great signing...if it was three years ago.
I'm a NZ Warriors fan for my sins, and while he is a fan favourite he is literally a walking bag of injuries now. He's hardly played in two seasons, has had long term trouble with multiple career threatening injuries. His ability is not in doubt and injury-free would steamroll defences for fun, but he is so beat up at this stage of his career that I simply cannot see this signing going any other way than that of Locke and Vidot.
I really hope I'm wrong on this one, but I think this signing smells a bit too much like old Salford.

Agree Carnster. And the Hasson signing at this stage seems poor. We seem to have lost our Oz link mojo since Sheens left, after all he got Ben and Lui.

Someone mentioned and that was my immediate reaction......this seems a bit Francis Meli.
This does seem a step back to the signings of old which I thought we'd moved away from, but then thinking back is that a tad unfair on Meli he certainly wasn't the worse signing yes he was past his best and lost a yard of pace, but we got more out of him than we did the other 2 NRL stars mentioned.
But yes in principle it does seem a bit "Francis Meli" ;-)

It's certainly not enthusing me that's for sure.
I know we need a new winger/centre to replace the departure of Carney. Watson seems to like to have at least one winger who is basically another forward, and Vatuvei fits the bill i suppose. But it's exactly this play style that has turned Vatuvei into a bit player at the Warriors by leaving him physically knackered. He is still a very fit individual and trains constantly, it's just that some injuries have lasting effects and can't be fixed.
Hasson and Vatuvei? Let's hope that it's third time lucky for Watson's next possible signing.

Have we signed him for the super 8's or for next season?

Our local rag, (Hull Daily Fail), has picked up on this but is now reporting a tweet from the good doctor saying that this is wrong.
Sadly, I can't find the tweet, and given the Fail's record for reporting complete bollocks, this could be wrong.
EDIT - I've now found the tweet. As always, the Fail could have the wrong end of the stick. League Express are reporting that we have signed Vatuvei for 2018. Dr K's tweet could be read one of two ways - i.e. he is either coming in time for the super 8's this season, or not at all. Take your pick

The question I'd ask is would Wigan, Saints Leeds etc sign a winger like Vatuvei at 32 years old? Not a hope in hell. I'm just concerned that now Sheens has departed we don't fall in the trap again of signing big name injury prone veterans that are way past their best. Personally I think I'd rather have kept Justin Carney if all Watto wants is big battering ram type wingers. If this is what we are looking for Patrick ah Van at Widnes is 3 years younger and would be a much cheaper option to have sat on the treatment table. For me a lot of our success this year can be attributed to a young and hungry squad that Sheen's put together. Let's learn from this and invest in a young player with size, pace and bags of potential like Tom Johnstone at Wakefield.

I would give him a couple of games then out for weeks. The club should go nowhere near him. After a last pay cheque, i bet no teams in Oz are after him.

I'm astounded by this decision if true. We've built a team on the field over the last two years based on hard working players and a tremendous play for the team ethic. This can be seen by the players singing our own songs in the changing room after the game. The two "major" signings we've had in the Marwan era have been Kevin Locke and Daniel Vidot. Both crocked player who had absolutely no impact on moving Salford forward as a team. In fact due to the financial outlay and some off field antics moved us backwards. Now we're looking at doing it all over again. Nothing against Manu who when fit is an absolute beast of a player and looks a thoroughly nice bloke. I'll support him like any other Salford player but is this a high risk strategy or what? It could potentially destabilise the team ethic we have created.

If we're going to be spending big bucks on a player from the NRL, then I can think of plenty I'd rather have than Vatuvei, despite his undoubted class when he's fit.
Derrell Olpherts is a much better signing I reckon. Keen and wanting to prove themselves in SL.

I think Peter Brown is still banned from the game in The UK.
