Forgive my ignorance, but having never been near the top 8 for a number of years, also the format changing on numerous occasions, how does the playoffs work.

In my opinion it doesn't work.
Should be an all new comp with everyone on a clean slate.

I totally concur MR.
In my opinion League leaders should be awarded the shield at the end of the regular season before the split. Then the top 8, just like the middle 8 should start on zero points, the benefit of league position being the number of home games.
The current format as it is if Cas win their remaining games of the regular season they will start the 8s 4 wins ahead of every one else, with the next 4 teams fighting for the remaining 3 playoff places.
This year it will be more of a close competition as 2-5 only have a couple of points between them.
You could argue this is fair as Cas deserve a shot to be in the final but then the 3 teams in 6-8 are there just to make up numbers and play for pride, just like Wakey last year as they mathematically couldn't get Into a playoff position.
I'm sure you'll get a lot who disagree with the above but I personally think it would make a more interesting competitive super 8s.

I'd go with Astleyred with a little bit of a tweak. I think that the top four should start with a few points advantage as although home field is a an advantage but personally I don't think it is quite enough. Perhaps the league winner should start on 4 points, 2nd - 3 points, 3rd - 2 points and 4th 1 point.
That way you have a good advantage and reward for doing well in the league but the bottom four of the top eight still have some chance of making the final however they would have to seriously work to do it. Sadly last year there were too many teams with absolutely nothing to play for at the end of the season so there were just a bunch of meaningless games.

You should get some sort of recognition for finishing in the top four, but as it is at the moment if you are in 6th to 8th forget it you have no chance. Having said this though I am happy this year as we have some sort of a chance of finishing up there unless the season goes totally T1ts up

I'm sure Wigan would go for this too. At least it gives all team some hope of making the top four playoffs for Old Trafford.

I think they should scrap the top eight play off rubbish. It should be the top four play for a place in the final. 1 v 4. 2 v 3 1 & 2 playing at home, winners then meet in the Grand Final. All done and dusted. Winners of the regular season should get the league leaders trophy. Not hard to work out is RFL As for the bottom four /top four. that should be the same format . Was thinking the same for the million pound game , but that wont work with the same format. But i think a better idea would be to expand the league to 14 teams, top 4 play of for the grand final, bottom team goes down simple.

Yeah I think that sounds like a much fairer format, resetting the points after 23 games. However, from a purely selfish perspective and considering how well we've done so far this season, I'd like to keep the points advantage we have over the others so far
