I was having a think about how many young players we've currently got who are first team regulars, or breaking through in to the first team. If we can retain this crop of talented youngsters I can only see them improving. Connor Williams | 18 | Liam Bent | 19 | Jake Bibby | 20 | Daniel Murray | 21 | Josh Wood | 21 | Ryan Lannon | 21 | Niall Evalds | 23 | Kriss Brining | 23 | Logan Tomkins | 24 | Olsi Krasniqi | 24 | George Griffin | 24 |

I think when Sheens was brought in as a consultant a couple of years back he identified that our squad was too old with too many has-bins just purely at the club for what they could get. I think I'm right in saying we had the youngest average age squad in SL last year and probably this. It seems Leigh is the new retirement home for aging pro's looking to top up their retirement funds.

Didn't know Tomkins was only 24, what we always need to guard against is not having a Kopczak or Hauraki as a big bruising on field leader and guardian for them, Junior I'd guess is the same for the backs.
Still say we should be searching the Championship looking for young nuggets to bring in like we have with Brining.
About time the club embraces that they have a very special talent in Evalds, proved yet again yesterday his class and that priceless commodity of being in the right place at the right time and sign him on to a long term deal and watch him progress in a red shirt.

I completely agree that we should be lining-up the potential stars of the future from the Championship and League 1 as they wouldn't command a high fee/salary, and we've already learnt that we can discover a hidden gem in Kriss Brining, who for me has been the best signing by any team in Super League this season. I would love to see both Evalds and Brining signed up to long-term deals. They are the future of this team. We are fortunate that we have a good mix of older, more experienced players combined with some raw young talent.

Couldn't agree more about Brining, feel a bit like his fan club but think there is something extremely special about him, Daryl Clarke clone and think that would do us all. Showed his strength again yesterday. There was chatter about us looking at a 2nd rower from York, worth a punt if it doesn't work out you loose a great deal less than if you bring in an NRL player and it doesn't work out.

It's not rocket science. A youngster with potential from the Championship desperate for an opportunity or a 33 year old veteran from a big club who's nothing to prove and has lost a yard? Tell me which one will have the most ambition to perform well and put in the extra effort to succeed? I'd never sign any player over 28 by choice. It's OK for players older than this who have been at the same club a while (Peacock, Sinfield etc) but when they move clubs after this age it's generally for all the wrong reasons.
