I actually think a Salford/Leigh merger would be a good idea from a business perspective. No idea how they would go about renaming the club though.

I've signed the petition but i think the only way to stop it happening is to do what we can as fans to get more people through the turnstiles. A few thousand signatures alone won't do much, but as part of a bigger objective it's a start, everyone that signs it needs to turn up on match days. And bring a mate, and maybe another mate.

Having read David Burke's email in the League express he mentioned one of the possible locations for the AJ Bell before it was built was where Ladywell hospital was ( now West One). I have always thought that would have been an ideal location. Does anyone have any idea why that site wasn't pursued further?

I have always thought that would have been an ideal location. Does anyone have any idea why that site wasn't pursued further? Peel were trying to get in with Salford City Council and unlock the land for Port Salford and get government funding and planning for the new roads. This was the reason they sponsored the club for about 10 years to the tune of about 200k a season. Furthermore how would the club have financed a new stadium at Ladywell with a cost of say 12-15 million without any additional land/retail to sell? I agree in hindsight it's probably a better location but I just don't think it was financially viable.
