Name changes but why? What I can't understand is; what is the evidence for all this? A survey of fans won't prove this one way or the other. Yes the crowds aren't coming but a lot of the reason for this has been the instability of the club over the past few years. The hype when the Doc took over, the constant change in coach and players, the 6 point deduction, which destroyed the crowd last year and the Doc potentially going to leave last year. + of course, the poor access to the stadium.
Then we have the million pound game, good results and we're on the way back but even when we start movinfg forward, like now, chaos is created. So why aren't the crowds bigger this year?
We had to change dates of matches because of Sky No fixed day or time for matches We had to change dates because of clashes with football matches And the marketing is poor, all via the website and twitter. I've brought a load of people and given their e mail addresses to the club but nothing happens. Lots of good ideasfrom lots of fans willing to help (lots on this site) ignored We have no marketing team; a consultant from a failed RL club isn't a marketing team
The problem is not the name, it's the fact that the club need a proper marketing plan which, with the fans help, everybody working together, they could achieve over the next couple of years. It will not happen overnight. The access to the stadium will improve and the club, RL and Sky need to work together to stop clashes with MU, our biggest competitor.

MANCHESTER 'IF' it came to vote then it's a no no for me.
It's a real shame the Willows could not have been developED like they did over at Widnes but that's going over old ground and what's done is done.

No because it’s a name change by stealth. It may only be a matter of time before Salford is later dropped. Also, there is no guarantee newspapers and websites will list Salford in their league tables. S & Manchester, for example, would not be acceptable.

Stealth bit may be valid, but the rest of your post is doom and gloom conjecture. With regards to your last point, Salford was already dropped in the last re-brand to Red Devils. If you look on popular websites at league tables they still list us as Salford Red Devils so I'm not sure your point is valid. I suppose it's all conjecture until we find out what on earth is happening...

I don't have a problem with the Salford name being omitted from merchandise. A good example of this is the New York Yankees baseball team where New York often gets dropped by the fans and on apparel. Other examples are Celtic and Rangers. Personally if it was a choice between changing the name to Manchester or the Salford name being less visible I'd settle for the latter.

Somehow, S&M Red Devils may gain a lot of interest but maybe not from RL fans.

If they sent him one of those ball-gag things it could be a real blessing.

Well, the other thing that came from the fans meeting the other night was that if this option is nipped in the bud, there would be a secondary campaign to get Salford back on the club badge. So, it might linger on for some time.

I can't think of any positives. 'Manchester' is either City or United. As a Salford supporter for over 50 years, and my father and grandfather before me, I will have no affection and connection with a rugby league team from Manchester. I will continue to support the game, but not the club.
