If he doesn't the club should be inviting him down, offering him a free seat at the table (literally pre game but couldn't hurt if the Mayor was incorporated into the club itself) so he sees the passion for the game and gets a fans eye view on how he might help.

He was never going to back a professional sports team, that owes that city a large amount of money, changing names and moving to another city!

Exactly, he and the Council has an investment in the club, for me there should be nothing stopping some of the Council vehicles, on hold info, Council website and offices helping to promote the club and upcoming games.
Does strike me that the club and council don't actually work together in any capacity other than community work, all well and good but promoting the product on the field is paramount for us to remain Salford and thrive.

Some good points there... Perhaps this could motivate the council to actually help us out with promoting the club, even if it's allowing free advertising space or the club's logo on "welcome to Salford" signs. Fear of losing us to Manchester could be a great motivator, if the club plays it's cards right... Probably little chance of that though!

Who in there right mind would want to flush 138 years history down the toilet and change the name to a place that has never taken to the sport? It would be commercial suicide.

I've wondered whether this 'leaking' of information on a proposed name change & potentially even a change of stadium has been done on purpose... To put pressure on the Council (& Peel?) as part of a negotiating strategy for support and maybe a better rental agreement?

To put pressure on the Council (& Peel?) as part of a negotiating strategy for support and maybe a better rental agreement? That has crossed my mind also. Are the club using it as a bargaining chip to get a better deal on the stadium and to get more casual fans through the turnstiles?
