It's a great headache for Watto to have, although personally I wouldn't drop other squad players just to shoehorn Evalds in to the starting line-up.

i was, abit drunk like but STILL you surley cant drop GOB [ You cannot say to certain players you start come what may,it does not work like that.If it did we would have no squad.Watto said at the press conference after the game, when asked about the situation, Evalds has the shirt.

Great to have these dilemma's but can't let someone let Evalds go to another club, quite the headache.

Trouble is there's only so many holes and too many pegs. If Evalds wants a regular first team spot he is faced with staying at Salford where he may potentially get shifted around or going elsewhere if he's guaranteed a shirt. The Club can only do so much in wanting him to stay by offering a new contract, but if Evalds wants away then there's little they can do.
I trust Watson's judgement on this issue and he's been consistent when he has said previously that players earn their spot. Those that have have kept the shirt. Even to the point of leaving a former Dally M medal winner on the bench. If Evalds wants an easier ride to earn his spot then that's his choice and I wish him well. I think there is a role for Niall at our Club and hope he stays on, but ultimately it's up to him as the Club has already said it wants to retain him.
If he chooses to leave then I hope that many of our supporters see the reality of the situation rather than knee-jerk and blame the Club for letting him go.

For me personally as some have said you cannot drop GoB because he got injured. He's been one of the most consistent high end performers for the past season and a half, he offers so much going forward with his link play with Lui / Dobson and his defence isn't that bad, plus he's the drop goal king.
But then Niall is the dilemma, I've always liked him and that knack he has for being in the right place at the right time. Yes he played well on Friday but I'm not sure IW has any other option but to play Obrien. Give Niall another go against KR and see if his form is being maintained, but after that I'm not sure.

Their is no dilemma Nial Evalds played the last to games at full back he played brilliantly he keeps is place. We are not good enough yet for certain players to be guaranteed a place and that includes Obrien. If you are saying that Evalds is that good he can play in any position so he as to move that in my opinion is ridiculous. But if that is the case surley he as more value to the club.

dixon13 I don't mean to derail this thread but the use of 'as' instead of 'has' is pretty confusing!

Not sure you get my point, who said players are automatically guaranteed a place, if your comparing two players on performances then Obrien comes out on top based on how long he's been consistently performing, just because he unfortunately took a head knock doesn't make him any worse a player form wise. Evalds played ok against Widnes and then played very well against Wigan and at no point in my previous post did I mention Evalds "is that good he can play in any position". As you state in the majority of you're posts it's down to personal opinion.

You did say he plays against KR then after that you are not sure.Say he does play,I am sure he will and he gets an hat trick fron full back or he plays really well then Obrien warms the bench the week after that's how it works or should do.

For me, I'd start GOB on Friday just to that our fans can start singing and baiting the KR fans about THAT drop goal

I am sure Watto will not be thinking along them lines. That drop goal just like the Hesketh disallowed try in 69 just a memory.

With Evalds playing we play more off the cuff Rugby. His defence has hugely improved and he certainly knows where the line is. Still don't get it with GOB and never will.

Obrien is pivotal to our link up play. He might not score as many as Evalds but he'll definitely assist twice as more. He also has a kicking game which we all know about as well. He just offers more than Evalds tbh.
