Firstly, I am sorry for my very direct opening post.
It has however revealed something I sort of thought might be the case:
No one appears to be able to agree on what actually qualifies someone to be a "Salfordian", but many of the SRD supporters are definitely not (me included), but because of some random period in their life they have become one.
They may not think of themselves as "Salfordians" , but they (and me) have become passionate about SRD.
While they/I may not actually consider ourselves as Salfordians, the history of Salford RL is embedded in us all. No matter where we are from or now live, we have become fans of SRD.
The history of the club is what has hooked, all those like me, if you lose the history you lose it all.
So all this stuff about "people of Salford" needs to stop and let us entice people of Greater Manchester with the name and history of Salford our current SL position! That is where most of our current supporters are and where our new ones will come from!

I'm also not a Salfordian but I bleed SRLFC, have played for them, and it's been a huge part of my life. The recent outrage of possible name changes has brought out the tribal side of a lot of supporters, and while well-meaning for the most, it can be quite alienating to non-Salford born fans. One look at the excellent merchandise available via a site I can't recall now shows this to an extent. Trying to find something that doesn't say 'Born in Hope' or relates to Salfordians only is quite difficult. I'm not saying these people are wrong as it just shows passion and pride, but you make a good point about the direct history of the Club being important because it's the one area of all this that is universal to all Salford fans regardless of birth place. It's an area where all supporters will be united in championing.
