STATEMENT
That was a poor performance that in other seasons would have seen us capitulate, the strength of character shown today was just outstanding.
I mentioned on another thread that Evalds could make his credentials known and good God did he, imperious under the high ball (terrible swirling winds) and again in the right place at the right time (can't tell me that kick of the season from Lui he scored off was planned).
Brining, just total utter class, where as Tomkins grafts his way forward Brining uses a super fast pass from dummy half and a lightening quick scoot.
Murray, hell yes, young, raw boned, pace and enthusiastic. 100% a star in the making.
Lannon, comes in and shows that yet again that strength in depth is not a worry.
Welham, silky, silky smooth, doesn't bash and barge but at times today the in and out move combined with the fend was unplayable for the Widnes defence.
BMM, unstoppable, get him running from the back fence and all that will stop him scoring is running dead in goal from his momentum.
Top kick from Lui (though annoyingly still doing the Marshall skip in the air to beat a non existent defender) and Dobson took control when needed to manage the game at times when they looked like getting a foothold.
All in all I'm incredibly proud of our red men.

Great win and some excellent performances by fringe players. Evalds and Bibby both superb and BMM bulldozing half the Widnes team for his 2nd try was a sight to behold!😊 If only Thaler hadn't pulled us back when Johnson was about to go under the sticks from Lui's break we'd have had a try of the year contender as well!
One downside today.... I listened to Watto's radio interview after the match and it does sound like Evalds will be on his way as he wants a starting FB spot. As we saw today he was pretty flawless and if he can't dislodge GOB then you can't really blame him for wanting a move as he's far too good a player to be kicking around on loan in the championship. Let's hope we can find a way of keeping him happy and using his talents as he'd be a great loss.

With Evalds I'd sign him up on a deal and then loan him to a SL team next season, pretty confident he will mature into one of the best old style British fullbacks.
Want him to do that at Salford.

Beautiful try wasn't it? And BMM is unstoppable at times Was pleased Bibby got a try, I thought he was superb and I suspect we'll need him to be for a good few weeks til we get JC back Evalds went really well. Some really testing kicks and he took every one and he linked up well in defence I think Adam Walne was my man of the match. He was immense, put in some massive hits and made metres every time. Krasniqi is breaking the line carrying the ball forward more and more too I thought the first half was very professional, we controlled the game and did made very few mistakes. I thought we looked a bit casual in the second half but we were able to go up a gear when we needed to. What a shame there was that little knock on by Welham in the move that started with Lui behind his own line and would have ended with Welham under the posts - that would have been the try of the season Very pleased with the result and the performance

So even if GoB is fit Evalds keeps him out? Not sure how one performance against a lesser side trumps a whole season? Unless you mean a place in the 17 then who else would be the one to sit out against a Wigan side at the pie dome....maybe Bibby but did he do much wrong either? Tough decision but cannot see Evalds keeping the starting FB slot that he seems to want, which is a pitty as we will definitely lose him to a rival.

It will be a tough call for next week. All I will say is that different opposition will require different strategies. What worked this week may need changing for next week. It's not as simple as saying such and such should start over someone else. The opposition will dictate how the team counteract them and the best people, and ways to do it, may need changing.

I agree to an extent IW will pick his strongest form side, the forwards yes he has the luxury to mix it ip but when it comes to the backs he'll pick his strongest team available based on previous form this year and it'll be the game plan that adapts not necessarily the starting 17.
*EDIT* Just read it back and think we're more or less saying the same thing

Great team effort again. I love how we don't panic. Defence after defence then bang we are in at the other end.
Evalds excellent Johnson getting better and better Lannon future looks bright Bibby Def one for the future Murray ?future BMM Adam walne what's happened to him? Flipping heck....and he hardly knocks on these days :-)
The futures bright the futures RED!!!!

Another good win. This is getting scary. I can't see any side wanting to play us at the minute. The times they are a changing. It's great that my football loving mates can't give me grief about Salford "getting beat again" which has been their favourite comment for as long as I can remember.
Watson is really doing a great job with this squad and long may it continue

Ran well, set up Greg Johnson's try with that little kick to the corner and got some important defensive reads right. An odd performance by Widnes. They ran really well coming out of their own half and came up with plenty of offloads, but went leaden once they got a sniff of the Salford line. Their only threat inside Salford's half came from Patrick Ah Van really.

I think he is incredibly underrated and therefore will miss out on an England call up unless we do something ridiculous that gets us noticed by Bennett. If he keeps up the consistency of performance and injury free I think he and Brining will become Watson's shrewdest signings.
Bring on the Pie boys.!!!
