Two conflicting articles in the space of a week, only last week he was stating he loved the club and wanted to stay.

It may explain why nothing has happened just yet with Lui. There's nothing wrong with a player keeping their options open until the last minute.

Seems like and obvious case of upping his market value, I don't want to leave but if you make it worth my while I might come back that type of thing.
I'd love to see him stay as he is playing exceptional rugby, can you imagine how good he would be if he didn't always try his jump/skip up in the air to beat the man (works but he does with no bugger to evade occasionally).
Much as Carney has that X factor about him on a week in week out basis I'd rather have Lui, think we need to identify a young British half and nurture him as eventual Dobson/Lui replacement and someone capable of coming in to cover injuries.

What about the Catalans half back Myler😎 I'm sure if we all came to a Home matcha hour early we could all have a big search for THE MYLER MONEY😉

All joking aside Myler is the type of British halve I'd love to sign, at one point I'd have said Ryan Brierley but he seems to have stalled but (and I await the here goes MR looking to change someone's position again) I do think he could be converted into a top class fullback in the GOD mode.
Over the years we have produced some high quality halves but we seem to have dropped the ball lately, Wood at one point looked like he might make a decent SL standard player but as in Brierleys case he seems to have stalled.

I'd say Myler has stalled in his progress as well...

We've got until the beginning of May before other clubs can officially start talking to opposition players. There's no doubt Lui wants to stay at the club given his recent write up in the League Express but we have to get him at the right price. Rugby League careers are very short when compared to most Sports, therefore when it comes to signing new contracts players agents will often go through some ruthless negotiations to get what's best for their clients.
If Lui is asking for £200k py I'd probably let him go to be honest, I have the feeling he will be holding out until May and see what offers come on the table. I do however think he's worth keeping on, he loves the club, enjoys the UK lifestyle, is one of the best stand offs in the League and it's important to have that continuinty within the team/club. If we can get him down to £125k py he's definitely worth keeping.
I heard from a very relaible source on Monday in France that George Griffin is also in negotiations and wants to stay at the club. Agents always start way above a players market value and then it's up to the club to haggle down on price. Lucky for us we've got Ian Blease leading these negotiations, a former agent himself with the club at heart so we can be pretty confident the days of over paying players are over. Let's hope they both stay put.

Taken from the League Express today:
Robert Lui is poised to pen a new contract with Salford Red Devils.
Boss Ian Watson confirmed a deal for the stand-off was close following his side's Challenge Cup win over Hull KR. "We are in discussions and hopefully we will have some positive news soon", he said. "Some (contract negotiations) drag on more than others".

The Devil in the detail lads put the after-match interview with Watson on the net where I noticed that he replied to someone asking about Lui. Good news if true.
