The stats show that we have made the most tackles in Super League this year. For a team in 4th place I think that is an amazing stat, and is a big reason we are where we are. I think that the defence this year has improved beyond recognition, especially the goal line defence.

It's hard to get your head round, did sheens teach watto that much in the time he was here or have we got a young hungry coach that is installing a belief into the players? I've never seen a Salford side dig in like we did against saints, it's a far cry from the crumbling defence - conceed twenty plus points side were used to.

Interesting. Widnes match aside, we've only scored one more try than we've conceded too, so we're getting good at winning close games. The team are mentally in a good place.

To add to this - the biggest losing margin we've had this season is 10 points (16-26 vs. Wigan), so even in the games we have lost we haven't been steamrollered by anyone.

It's hard to tell at this stage when not all clubs have played the same number of games so in pure numbers terms, us, Hudds, Leeds and Leigh should be near the top of a lot charts cos we've played an extra game. Doing average points scored and conceded per game shows that we average scoring 23.38 points That makes us 5th highest average points scored per game. That is is probably about average for us - lower than many years. Last year it was over 24 before the middle 8s. The massive improvement is in our defence - a mere 17.5 points conceded per game. that also makes us 5th best. I reckon our average in SL is not far off 30, last year it was nearly 25. Castleford are scoring an average of 40 pints a game. They managed 12 against us. They have scored at least 30 points against every other team they've played. Quite incredible really. It's not unusual for us to have the highest number of tackles in the league. But normally that means we're down near the bottom cos we've had no ball. Interestingly we also have the 4th highest number of missed tackles, the 3rd highest number of penalties conceded and joint 7th for handling errors. Normally a lot of tackles, missed tackles and penalties would equal a high number of points conceded but not for us. As I say you have to take the fact we've played an extra game into account so we may be more mid-table after we've played our CC game and everyone has caught up I think the big difference is our goal line defence. We are still conceding penalties and make errors because of expansive game so we invite teams onto us but for the first time I can remember we are keeping them out. I think even Karl Harrison's team struggled with goal line defence It's also the defence that gives me the most confidence about how we will go for the rest of the year. In previous year's when we've had a decent run up to Easter we have still conceded more points than most. If we can keep working for each other the way we are now then we will be in with a good shout over the rest of the year Of course the flip side would be that our scrambling goal line defence is not a sustainable way of winning games so if we don't sort out the penalties and the missed tackles then it could be our undoing, esp when we are low on 1st choice numbers Either way we should be in for an exciting season

Im not suprised with this, we tend to give away silly penaltys and mistakes
