Courtesy of an article here about giving Ian Watson an extended contract: our attendances for the first three home games of the season have each been higher than our highest attendance of last season, which was, surprisingly, against Widnes. Mind you, it also refers to us as "one of the countries most exciting, flourishing sides", when, of course, it should be "one of the country's most exciting, flourishing sides". Journalists eh?

Sorry, but surely there was more than 5221 of us there yesterday!!!

With one stand closed, I thought it looked about right. Whatever it was, it's probably less than we should be getting but a bloody sight more than we have been getting.

With one stand closed, I thought it looked about right. Whatever it was, it's probably less than we should be getting but a bloody sight more than we have been getting. Taken from a well known site..... There are four stands: West Stand (main stand) including changing rooms, media centre, hospitality boxes, banqueting suite; capacity 4,500 North Stand (Wooden Spoon Stand) – all-standing, usually the away end; capacity 2,500 East Stand (MBNA ) all seating, capacity 2,500 South Stand/The Shed (Wellsprings Stand) – all-standing, home to hardcore Reds fans; identical to the North Stand, capacity 2,500 So let's start with West Stand. Looked around half full to me so let's say 2250. North Stand - Looked rammed to me and the fact Cas had a full block in the West stand also indicates ir was sold out. 2500. East Stand closed. 0. South Stand - 2/3 full perhaps? Difficult to fully gauge as I stand there and can't really tell 100%. Let's round it down slightly to be cautious and say 1500. So that's 2250 + 2500 + 1500 = 6250 Can't see me being a full 1000 out on that guesstimate.

There was another site (though for the life of me I can't now find it) that suggested the attendance was something like 5900 - I'd have thought this was closer, so yeah, your guestimate isn't that far off I don't think.

Castleford filled their side which is 2500, think our side behind the sticks were about 2000 but looking at pictures there surely was about 2000 in the west stand. Ive always thought salford played with the gates, there seem to be more fans when wilky was last in charge and im positive we had more fans turning up since then.

I remember the Wigan attendance being announced last year at around 6000 when it must have been nearer 8000 with the East Stand being open. Shame the Saints game is Thu night and on Sky as that will definitely knock 20% off the gate. If we can get a run going into the Leigh game we could be looking at 7000+ as we all know Leigh take 5000 everywhere they go....☺

I would question that the North Stand was rammed. Calculating the capacity of a standing area isn't an exact science, and stands of the same size but different viewing angles, age, etc. can have different capacities. Ease of access and egress are other factors that go in to calculating the overall capacity. With the AJ Bell being a relatively new stadium, it's highly likely that the capacity of the standing areas would be based around the highest permissible density of people per square meter (47 people per 10 square meters). This high density is relatively uncomfortable - not exactly sardines, but not too far away. Inevitably, people will, if they can, spread out a little bit. So, you can get stands that look full (because there don't appear to be any spaces) but actually aren't full to their official capacity, purely because people have spread out a little bit. I suspect that's what generally happens with standing areas, and leads to the fairly regular bleat from away fans that they outnumbered the home fans.
In addition, the Castleford club shop apparently reported that they sold around 1900 tickets for this match. To get up to the 2500 in the North Stand, plus the other visiting fans that were in the West Stand would have meant the ticket office at the stadium sold in the region of 1000 tickets on the day. There certainly wasn't a big queue at the ticket office when I passed it on the way in, and I find it unlikely that they sold anywhere near that many, or even has the capacity to.

Whatever the actual attendance was - I was glad to be there!!!
And I agree with you at least on 2 points - the attendance could and perhaps should have been better, but there was a Hell of a lot more than at some points last season!

Im sure iv seen online that Salford only make profit from the stadium if the attendance is over 5 thousand. It be interesting to see who does the counting. the west stand looked at least half full and that holds 4 thousand and the 2 corners were basically full.

Nothing can surely ever get any lower than the sub 2000 crowd vs Huddersfield a couple of years back. Live on Sky, 0-19 defeat, hammered it down from beginning to end AND it took over and hour to get from Eccles to the ground on the bus.
That was truly a nadir. This season so far has been a breath of fresh air in comparison.
Roll on Friday!

Remember that night, was the night the bellend side of Koukash came out and he blocked me on Twitter for asking if the club might speak with First to see if something might be done to help fans get home after midweek games where basically the buses have just about stopped. His loss not mine
