We have it in us to beat anyone in super league so last night wasn't any surprise. Carney been excellent last two games and i hope his injury at the end of the game isn't serious. Logan had a decent game for his first game back and Jones try at the end was awesome. I would like to know the penalty count though as i think we're giving far to many at the minute. Yeah I thought the penalties were high for us. Griffin got through a lot of work but was guilty a number of times trying to slow the PTB down. Although, to be fair, we had no option at points but to try and do so as Hudds ruck speed was fast and causing problems. I thought we struggled to control the ruck most of the time and is something we need to work on. Saying that, we made up for it through sheer hard work, but we'll need to be more savvy against the top teams. Good attitude shown throughout and never let up which is pleasing to see. Hopefully will take it forward into the next match.

I thought the penalties did us a favour and were quite tactically given away (if there is such a thing) I have no stats or basis of fact, but it just feels like (as it did against Wigan) the line breaks round the ruck cost us more points than the penalties given away. Again just a feeling, but I have more hope that we can defend our own goal-line from 20m out with a set of 6, than we can from their 30 or 40 metre line. Of course, this needs to change, but we look far more susceptible in loose play than we do with our feet on our own goal line.

Enjoyed that a lot. More off the cuff maverick stuff from Shudds vs our more structured, solid approach, though I'd I'd expect to see us flow a bit more freely with BMM, Hauraki and Carney in the team. It's an absolute fucking joy to finally see a Salford team made up of solid professionals playing to a plan and defending as a team mind. We do need to tighten up defence around the halfway line, but those two big lads up front for Hudds will tear a good few teams apart this year - good on our boys for regrouping and shutting them down after the two quick tries.

I think the penalties we gave away and the breaks Hudds got around the ruck are linked. The only options we had were trying to slow their PTB down. We got caught out a few times doing this. I do agree that we look better when we are set in defense than when we are in broken play. I'd be surprised if we did them deliberately as nobody ever wants to take repeated sets if they don't have to. Just a consequence of how Hudds played imo.

I agree that we don't ever really want to give penalties away. I think that for some reason I have more faith in defending a set of 6 on the goal line than in midfield - even if they are structured in their play we still look 'light' in defense for some reason.
Yeah, the 2 big guys for Hudd are potential game changers and they will use them a lot better as the season moves on. Provided they take the opportunities the big guys will carve out. However, I still think they will be bottom 4.
Phil 'Cockwomble' Clarke is in a tizz now though. (I apologise to Womble fans) He appeared last night to have been shunted up the @rse with the news that last season we would have been top 8 without the points deduction (he mentioned it at least twice) and so then decided that we 'could really do things' and 'surprise one or two people' (If my quotes are by and large correct). Make your mind up, Bell end!

Just saw on social media that Carney pushed childs yet to me it looks like childs walks into Carney. So he might get a ban. I know every game is important but if we get 4 points in the next 3 games then i think we are set up for a good year. (Leeds away Warrington home , Wakefield away)

In reply to the query from Rossy regarding penalties. I counted that Huddersfield conceded 6 penalties and Salford conceded 8. At half time the count was 4-4. Very often its the timing of the penalties that is worse than the number. Last night I thought that on a couple of occasions we had built up momentum by getting well into the Huddersfield half only to give away a penalty on the turnover. Worth noting that on two of Huddersfield's penalties they scored in the subsequent set of 6. Hope we can someday solve the penalty problem. We usually end up badly on the penalty count and this goes back many seasons to well before the move from the Willows. I would not accuse referees of bias but I do think that on occasions they could subconsciously expect certain teams to give away penalties and look for transgressions accordingly. That said great performance all round last night and very heartening for the new season.

It's quite nice to see that at some point in the season we can bring in the likes of Carney (T), Brining, Hauraki, BMM and Evalds into a 19 that's just won by 10 in Hudd. All of which we know will play with the 'team first' mentality that Watson is so insistent on. With the exception of TC (close friends get to call him) as we haven't had the pleasure yet - lets hope he's willing to fit in. It's all very exciting...

Watched the game again and I thought our line speed and kicking game were excellent the other night. Having watched Leeds tonight we are going to have to put a right shift in to get anything there

"just been looking online and tickets behind the sticks was £2." As a mean Northerner,I asked and it was the far end from where we were. As timings to get home were very tight and it would mean not being with the Salford fans, I decided the added delay in getting away was not worth it. Just checked RL&LE and the penalty count was H 6 S 8.
Oh, and as was walking into work, a city fan told me that they were only able to get a draw because of the damage the rugby did to the pitch on Thursday night!!!!!!!!
