Strong performance today I thought. I was especially impressed with our defence.
Our attack in the first half was excellent at times. Once GOB came off I thought we reverted to more one out, less structured stuff but that's partly what friendlies are about. I thought we looked well organised, motivated and committed. Hull were a bit hit and miss but didn't dominate our forwards as I expected them to. Not sure if they had their first choice pack out. Taylor looked dangerous at times for them, Kelly was quiet (Tasi hit on him was great). George Griffin smashing Josh was the highlight for me (and good to see Josh come out of it smiling)
Brinning looked good again, Josh Wood was solid but his passing was a bit shaky, Lannon did OK, George Griffin was immense, Koppy good, Weller was good til he got injured, Dobson and Lui controlled the game well, GOB was superb , Sau and Carney were a big threat. All in all, it was encouraging

Couldn't have summed it up better.
It was a very solid performance, in particular in defence. We were clinical in attack and took our chances well. Hull's ill discipline gave us better field position and we punished them.
I'm not sure how the referee didn't see the cannonball tackle on Carney by Tuimavave, but it will be interesting to see if he can be retrospectively punished for it.
Although Dobson was the official MOTM, I thought Sa'u was our best player but it could have also been given to George Griffin and a handful of other players.
I suddenly feel a lot more confident about the new season but also cautious to remember that it was only a friendly.

Go with that Sau , a bit more structure & 1 or 2 set plays appeared , Lui looked a bit more like ... Lui, 'close friends get to call him TC' will be around soon Eh Rob . Greg Johnson also deserves a mention .
Hull certainly weren't at their best , but the pleasing thing for me was , in the second half with 8 squad players on we still managed to contain Hull.
hopefully Hauraki - who was having a good game hasn't busted his groin , otherwise our 1st choice second row will be absent for the opening rounds.
Still no sign of Tomkins L - need to put a missing persons add out .

Agree about Hauraki. I hope its nothing serious, I think he was looking like the player we thought we'd signed at the back end of last season and has been strong in the friendlies. Was having a very strong game today

Hauraki has looked like a different player recently. His game has definitely improved and his discipline is much better. Shame he got an injury today but fingers crossed its not too serious, although I believe he was on crutches after he was substituted.
I thought the younger lads handled themselves really well, in particular Connor McGrath from Halifax, Josh Wood, Kris Brining and Matty Wilkinson.
Lots of positives today!

Irrespective of the result,we really impressed. Our first choice outfit looked tight and had a few decent moves. I agree that George Griffin looked really good ,playing a different role to last season, further from the ruck. Dobson and Rob Lui bossed it. It was really good to see our second string, with a few older heads, finish the second half so strong. No idea who the full back was but the kid was impressive,as was Colin Dixon's grandson

No idea who the full back was but the kid was impressive,as was Colin Dixon's grandson The lad who was on the right wing and switched to fullback was Connor McGrath. Dixon's Grandson was Chester Butler. Both looked very promising for their age.

What's the score with Conor McGrath? Is he a Salford player at Halifax on Dual Reg or has he transferred to 'fax? I know he came through our Academy

What's the score with Conor McGrath? Is he a Salford player at Halifax on Dual Reg or has he transferred to 'fax? I know he came through our Academy As far as I'm aware, McGrath is a Halifax player. I found this on the Halifax Courier's website: "An announcement on Fax’s website described the deal as a ‘one game’ loan, which was apparently initiated by Reds’ boss Ian Watson. “Myself and Ian feel like it will be a great opportunity for two talented young players to get a feel for Super League,” said Marshall, who used Salford’s 19 year old back rower Liam Bent in all three of his side’s warm up fixtures. “They asked for two outside backs and we’ve provided them. For a team without a reserve grade, I definitely think the one-match loan period will show how this partnership can be mutually beneficial.” Both McGrath and Butler have links with the Reds, the former having spent time in their junior set up and the latter the grandson of the former Fax and Salford sensation Colin Dixon".
