He's only played 53 minutes this season. I hope this isn't going to be a Vidot-esque signing if the rumours are to be believed!

He's hardly the injection of pace that we need, as others say if it is until the end of the current campaign then not a bad signing but if for longer I'd question it's anything more than a pension top up ALA the Salford of old.

I have to admit I thought he was older than 31, think the prudent thing would be to bring him in until the end of the season with an eye to seeing if he is worth a deal for next year.
Might be fantasy RL but for me bring in Roberts would be the big thing, a real marketable match winner, without doubt the fastest player in SL if he did come and seems to be in his prime but on the outer for SOO/AUS contention.

The trouble with Vatuvi is that he plays RL like a freight train. He's spent the last fifteen years basically running full-tilt into brick walls. It takes three or more tacklers to bring him down, and while that physicality is what has made him the player he is, it's also contributed to his failing body. Thirty one is still pretty young but his body is giving out.
I'm really not sure it's worth the risk, and I have a feeling he may want to stay in NZ.

I have a serious question about Justin Carney. Is he a really good RL player or just a really strong powerful battering ram? he doesn't ghost around anyone meaning that in reality all we are looking for to replace him is another 1st hit up battering ram with a little pace (only a little as JC isn't anything special on the speed front). He never set the world alight with his try scoring feats at Salford so again that is another attribute if we found a replacement who scored the odd one would be an added bonus. Did i mention the guy at Sheffield yet

Moley has told me that NZ Warriors are trying to get rid of Vatuvei, so it looks like this rumour has got some legs.

Who misses out Johnson or Evalds? Guess Evalds and waits for his chance if any injuries occur between now and the end of season games.

Moley has told me that NZ Warriors are trying to get rid of Vatuvei, so it looks like this rumour has got some legs. It would surprise me if he came. He's been a one club man throughout his career and to up-heave his family at this stage of his career doesn't seem a great choice. I'd have thought an external role at the Warriors beckons as he is adored by the Warriors fans. I suppose it's whether he sees himself being able to play, and play effectively that will decide things. The Warriors want rid to free-up cap space and it's unlikely that he will feature for them in the future, barring horrendous injuries to those ahead of him.

Personally I'd prefer a quality nine or a back row forward over an outside back. If we have aspirations for success Tomkins isn't the answer or makeshift back rowers. (Far from the level of BMM) Don't get me wrong I'm not rubbishing anyone I just think these are areas that would benefit the team much more.
I'd just see Vatuvei at his age as another Francis Meli type signing.

Nah Tomkins is developing into a quality number 9 for us who's showed each year he's getting better and complements Brining well. Our backrow is again probably one of our strongest points of our squad with i think Ed Smith to come in for the future. With Carney gone we're definitely in need of another winger as we haven't replaced him. If it is Vatuvei then he's the exact same mold as Carney and will bar from age be a like for like replacement.

Tomkins offers a more conservative approach and is strong in defence. When we need to attack, Brining is the answer. They work well together and share a fairly equal amount of playing time (Tomkins usually gets ~28mins 1st half and 15 in the 2nd, Brining gets ~12mins 1st half and 25 in the 2nd).

Is Ed Smith coming confirmed? Wouldn't say no as seems to be one of the unheralded gems from the lower leagues.

We desperately need some pace. Johnson apart are backs are probably slowest in league. We need a quality centre and winger. Will be surprised if we keep Todd Carney, best using overseas spots for positions we need to strengthen.

I'd agree that we lack pace but Watson obviously prefers outside backs that run over opponents rather than run around them. We had two of the fastest players in Superleague and he chose to show them the door. Watson's coaching style is definitely in the same mould as Lee Radford and Brian Noble. Not for the purist's who appreciate skill, speed and agility or as as entertaining to watch but effective.

The story I heard was, that last year Marwan told the players that he was quitting at the end of the season and that they were free to find other clubs. Obviously Tim Sheens went to Hull KR and Mason got a contract at Wakey. I believe we wanted him back and he wanted to come earlier in the season when he wasn't getting a game. Just the sort of player we need, young, keen, English and learning all the time.
