The squad was Threadbare before Vidot going. Now it's just bare. A bit like your optimism, dixon... Threadbare is a little bit of an exaggeration. We are certainly short, but nothing is going to happen over the Xmas and New Year so not sure about the timing of your point. I think we need a Centre/Utility centre as direct replacement for Vidot. I'm happy that the Club are not just rushing out to fill squad numbers. It's quite plain that we've been blighted with bell-ends in the past and the Club is right to take a little time. Plus, it's all about cutting costs at the moment, and excess squad members need to actually be useful rather than there for an emergency. The Club said they are actively looking, so I guess that answers your question.

I disagree with that dixon. We lost an injured tommy lee, an average luke Burgess and Josh Griffin and MCB who will be missed. We've brought in mossop tasi brinning and the young prop from wire.....with another player signing by the end of January. We already have enough wingers and evalds will slot into centre so I'm not sure I get your post pal...?

I can see why the concerns, we've addressed last seasons shortfalls with the forwards and bringing Brinning in to replace TL, but we've lost 3 decent backs. Yes Evalds fills one gap, but still missing a decent centre / winger which the club have stated they are looking to address so fingers crossed.....
Centres; Say Jones Evalds
Wingers; Carney Johnson Evalds
Plus the youngsters.
I for one think Vidot would've come good this year now hes fit, I wouldn't have let MCB go but guess they didn't know about the Vidot scenario.

This isn't rocket science. We will have injuries. Guaranteed. We were already short before Vidot left. We need a class centre. Other options are ok when we have injuries but our starting first 13 needs the best centre we can afford

I don't think anyone on this forum has been overly optimistic. It's just that they would rather judge after the team playing at least a few games. You are Mario, and I claim my $5...

You have that wrong friend.I am just a supporter and like a lot of other people are just a little fearfull with this lot.Yes we are looking but are we looking on the market or in harrods. And don't give me that the squad is better than last year.If people thought that we would have sold more season tickets than this time last year but we haven't.If your that confident, you want to get down to bet Freds. Will you be going for the top 8 or the million pound game.

According to Ian Blease we have sold more tickets than last year at this stage, so I don't know where you are getting that from. For the rest of your post, I refer you to my previous post.

At the minute the way it stands, my 17 would be;
1. Obrien 2. Carney 3. Sau 4. Evalds 5. Johnson 6. Lui 7. Dobson 8. Griffin 9. Tomkins 10. Kopczak 11. BMM 12. Jones 13. Flanagan
14. Brinning 15. Huaraki 16. Mossop 17. Tasi
Evalds to move to the wing in replace of Johnson if / when we sign a centre, as for me he's more a finisher than a creator. Johnson to miss out.
The obvious other option is; 4. Jones 5. Evalds 12. Huaraki 15. Lannon

Don't know why but I can see them trying Lannon in the centres if pushed during a game, same sort of size as Jones a fair turn of pace too.
Glad there is no impulse buy, there's time to get the right person for the right price, personally I would have seen if there was a young fringe back at the Titans we could have taken when let Vidot go.
Maybe when (or increasingly I fear IF) the tie in with the NRL club comes about there will be someone come over via that route.

The squad was Threadbare before Vidot going. Now it's just bare. Vidot made no difference to the squad. He was useless and would not of got in the team with his attitude. He will not be missed. So we are back to threadbare according to you. I think we have a decent squad. 50 to 1 are we worth a flutter ?

I'm with Carnster on this one. There's time yet and at least we have a settled core to the team. No news is good news as far as Salford are concerned, if we think back to recent seasons. I'd give a big sigh of disappointment if Salford gave a knee-jerk reaction and signed yet another 'passed-it star with a severe personality disorder', let's just hope that this is the territory of the Lobbyists. Who knows, But thank you Dixon13 for bringing ng this topic up?
Now where's my sherry?
HNY Jimmy
ps Maybe we've got first dibs on the two Sale wingers once they have yawned their way through a few games of 'kick and clap'? Would you take one or both of them?

If you think of the last 2 seasons we have have brought in Jones at the last minute and for me he was just about our best and then before that we brought in Patterson, okay it went sour but on the field he was another excellent last minute buy.
I'd be more worried if we returned to type and panicked and paid overs for someone who was just topping up his pension. For me Kevin Naiqama fits that bill, has openly said he wants to stay in the NRL so would question his commitment to relocating and not getting the increasingly common home sickness bug.
