So we are 7 rounds in, 4 wins from 7 which at the start of the season most of us would have taken. So my question is what are your thoughts on the first rounds of Super League?
Given our small squad I have been impressed with the effort and application more so in defence than attack. At times we've been fantastic, the goal now has to be consistency. The break two weeks break to London has come at a welcome time, we can get bodies, certainly Dudson and Sidlow will be in contention. Players like Ryan and Nofu will get fitter.
The negatives, our edge defence is awful this seems to have got worse since last season. This has to be put at Rowleys door as coach, all our wingers defend in the same way this needs to change we are leaking points. Time to fix this our adjust starting positions.
London is a must win we need to focus on this game and turn up.

I'd say based on the off season I am content with the first 7 rounds. As WRD identifies the edge defence is poor and it was consistent against Leigh and Cas. Most games have seen us perform well, our attack has surprised me given the loss of Ackers and Croft. KR in the cup was horrendous collectively and Cas was more about individuals poor defence rather than the whole teams. Sneyd is playing above expectation, I'd like to see more from Cust in attack. The pack are holding their own against most other teams. My wish for the next game is more solid edge defence.
Rowley said we were missing 5 injured v Cas. Sidlow and Dudson are a couple of weeks away, then we have Singleton, Hankinson and Hellewell 3-4 weeks away.
If we can get players back over the next 3-4 weeks then as the weather improves I'd hope our performances do to.

I think it's a good moment to assess but it's just as hard to make any sense of what's happened so far.
At Cas it wasn't just a question of the edge being a problem, there were far too many to other things that needed fixing.
One of the major problems was that the Tigers gave Sneyd little space and we had no back up plan.
From a spectator/televisual point of view we were p-poor aprt from in patches. We looked like a relegation side for a huge part of the match.
The people coming back will make loads of difference, but the nature of the bad defeats is really worrying.
As for the London match, well they won't need any motivation and in fact must be licking their lips at the moment as they been provided with a blue print for beating us.

Wings still settling in. The right edge has had a few changes already. Hankinson, Ryan and Nofo all played there in first 8 games of season. Also with a new Centre in McDonald - it will take time.
Think we are quick to forget we’ve lost Sio and Burgess in the off season. Big big losses.
8 points from 14 - I’d have snapped your hand off at start of season. Thought we gave a good account for ourselves at Leeds. And a brain fart lost us the game v Wigan.
The KR game and Cas game were bad. But all teams this year have had a bad game or 2. Think a week off this week should help us reset. I expect a big performance v London next week.
Think when we can get Wright, king, Ormondroyd, singleton and Dudson all in the same team then we can hopefully kick on. Injuries in a small squad were always going to be a problem.

Only seen two games so far and short highlights on internet for the rest so can’t make any in depth analysis. As Eccles says,8 from 14 a better start than I was expecting from the fixtures.

I am happy with the first six rounds,I don't think anyone should be happy with seventh I don't think their are any mitigating factors at all for that display,I disagree with The coaches observations that their was know complacency i thought that was part of the trouble I came into this season with hope rather than expectation and I am still in that mode. I said I would be glad when we got to 18 points any more that's a bonus.I am looking forward to the rest of the season.

I agree with most of this ER.
The wings point is interesting; David Nofoaluma doesn't look right and Ethan doesn't look the same player.

As well as developing a new spine and getting recruit into the pack we’ve lost two international wingers and have only Lafai in last years position Ryan was injured, now Hankinson injured, Cross moved out to the wing and he’s had to bring in an Oz winger who was not fit then fell ill.
So it all might take a couple of days to gel

It is fascinating which RL outlets just report Rowles award and which ones have felt the need to explain it or add provisos to their piece on the subject.
In any case well earned and I have to congratulate the Journos who vote on this because it would've been easy to select a coach from the top six or the usual four!
As usual Rowles ponts to the whole team for the award but this was well deserved on his part,

So it all might take a couple of days to gel Ryan and Norfa need to get fully fit and will come good, I believe class always prevails. The more pressing matter is sorting out the edge defence which is awful at present. If we are scoring points why over commit in defence?

I think the problem is MTR that it’s a team game and the backs and spine have been decimated…it’ll take time to create the ‘team’ again…injuries willing, probably by mid season is the time to judge
