Ok, I'm in a pub in Cardiff for one of the RL Cup Finals that was taken on the road when Wembley was being re-developed and I'm in need to make room for more beer. I went to the stones for a slash, to find Andy Gregory, a great RL hero to me, standing at the end stone singing quietly to himself as he did his deed. There was no one else in the bog, we were alone. Naturally I went the next stone but one to him as we all need privacy and besides, his singing was feckin awful! As we both stood looking at the wall, I tried to find the right words at the right moment to talk to him, should I join in the singing with him - nah too crass, should I tell him that I like Guinness too - nah too crass, or should I ask him who thinks is going to win today - nah too crass. Needless to say he finished before me and walked out before I could think of anything. Not the best opportunity, but probably the only one I'll have to thank Andy for all the fantastic times he gave me during his time at Salford.
Have you ever nearly met a Salford hero?

I'm at a sportsman's dinner,Langworthy from memory, and David Watkins was speaking and signing autographs. Estagnol took my photo with DW and then there was time to talk to him. I completely froze. I didn't know what to say. Fortunately,2 or 3 years later,we were at one of those pre match lunches upstairs at the Willows and he came across to our table. I was prepared,so I was fine that day. Embarrassment rectified !

Many years ago I was out having a meal at the old Indian restaurant above Swinton precinct and half the Salford team was in there much the worse for wear, all I could think was to ask them all to sign my bill (which I left behind for some reason) and shake Richard Websters hand and congratulate him for his wonderful tackle on Jason Critchley.

I once met David Cairns & Bill Burgess at a Barrow Raiders Game. but that's not Nearly but Actually..
I work colleague of mine in the 90's attended a sportsman's dinner and got his invite signed by Ian Blease - he didn't know him from Adam but knew I was a Salford Fan so went out of his way to talk to him , wonder what ever happened to Ian Blease...

I had to go to Chester on the train for work and as I walked through Chester town centre at 8.30 in the morning, I walked passed a building site where this huge bloke was demolishing the biggest burger I have ever seen! Not the best moment to have a word with our second rower Paul Forber who was playing really well for us at the time, no doubt helped by his own version of a healthy sports diet.

I was one in the same room as Adrian Hadley-head, so acting cool I pretended not to recognise him which was okay cos he didn't recognise me either.

When I was a kid Salford players used to kick plastic rugby balls into the terraces, on one occasion I managed to grab one. After the match we were hanging around just outside the ground when we saw David Watkins, my brother said go on get David to sign your ball. I froze, how could I dare ask the great man I was shaking in my boots, in the end my brother took the ball and got it signed. A lot of years later and the last match ever to be played at the willows, the same scenario occurred and guess what, I bottled it again. I think I need therapy.
But one player I did manage to have a very enjoyable drunken conversation with in a pub in London before one cup final or other was the great Roger Millward, ok not a Salford player but a real gent
