If RL supporters of a certain age have to look online to see who Harold Sutherland and Roy Francis are ,then the award should be renamed every few decades. Sutherland, to me, is the name of an aircraft that my grandfather accidentally set fire to and destroyed in 1944,and Roy Francis isn't he the " I could crush a grape"

I know this might sound odd,but I very rarely watch NRL coverage. Secondly, I have no knowledge of who Dally M is or was, No doubt someone who was extremely talented for his club & country I'm guessing many RL fans ten thousand miles away in Sydney. Dont have much knowledge of Great British former RL Players.

Dont have much knowledge of Great British former RL Players. And that’s fine. These kind of remembrances are probably just not for you. What I’m getting at is that the Aussies, and I’d extend that to the US with awards named after Cy Young and Vince Lombardi, huge names in their day, probably wouldn’t muck around by removing them anytime soon. But perhaps there should be a limit; I’d suggest longer than living memory though. With the fullness of time, when we might know about what causes or contributes to MND, the Rob Burrow award may be more a reminder of a period when we were reckless with the health and wellbeing of the first generation of full-time professional players. Who knows?

I think it's that knowledge of the here and now, and the decades since your birth are the extent of interest, focus and attention span.
Which is why we're all reliving history right now!

. Which is why we're all reliving history right now! Ah the: “the only thing to look forward to, is the past.” Any thoughts if SRD are playing Swinton at Salford Uni this weekend?

Salford Red Devils
GLORY BE TO THEM
2024 Betfred Superleague Will have ended, and all of the pessimism on this forum in the off-season will be swilled away by a literal bucket of hot water full of industrial strength Bleach.
We can, but hope.

Yes, at the end of the day, it's really all we've got in the bank at present.

Ryan B has said that IMG has been making a difference.
This is interesting because I can't see it.
When we had only the Beeb (terestrial) tV we were ignored, dismissed, pushed aside and made invisible in plain site.
What has changed? Where are the different impact results seen in increased media coverage and greater visibility and representation for RL?
Simply having more TV partners and every match on TV isn't the same as RL being truly part of the media sporting world in any real sense.
Everything they do is low hanging fruit!

Russ, I get what you're saying, but the season hasn't even begun yet. Even in the middle of the season we are almost invisible to the media, right now we are totally invisible. Let's just wait a fortnight or so and judge things then? Though I do think you might be proved right.

It's just the glass ceiling for RL is the media coverage not criteria for entry to SL's private club nor yardsticks which favour those clubs already predominant.
Having TV outlets and more money coming in won't rid the sport of its invisibilty.
Good to hear from you though, I think there's less and less of us who care about RL as a whole, not surprising I suppose.
