Anyway we have an 18 year old replacement from Leeds if we have no money again and he goes Have you not seen the article which states that funding is going to be cut this year as the RFL cocked up their calculations when they originally advised clubs? Clubs have spent their budgets so of this is now being reduced it leaves a massive hole! How do you expect the club to plug that sort of hole which is rumoured to be well over 200k |

So we keep selling and losing our best players to survive as we have done for the past seven years and the fans keep getting asked for money?
I don’t see any other club selling it’s best assets because of this.

Because other clubs have got a benefactor with money, we don’t! Most clubs probably fonf max out the available budget!
Suppose this must be gold dust for the likes of you! I’m sure you would rather the club went under!

I’m sure you would rather the club went under! My concern even though it’s extreme is if we have to keep selling players are crowds will go right back down and we would end up in a downward spiral. Not a great place to be hopefully we can hold out |

Not extreme, totally agree CW, and I wonder how long some of th3 better players and Rowley will stick it…no info from the Club esp avoiding finance issues…where’s the Share , Dupree, early season ticket money gone, supposedly we’re told spending to the limit but in reality surely nowhere near it..we need a bit of Rowley openness from others
I know a lot of supporters who think we’re being taken for a ride and have already had enough, the spiral is starting
We can’t go on for ever fighting above our weight with no end in sight…Sale have the purse strings on the commercial aspects…we don’t seem to be able to generate funds

Not at all RR I’ve been a supporter far too long, but if we’re sitting round waiting for Father Christmas rather than identifying ways of generating funds other than from fans…we could go down the Swanny |

I was having a look at nominations for the Championship awards to maybe spot a prop but it's all backs and hookers.
Player of the Year:
Caleb Aekins (Featherstone Rovers) - FB and non-fed
Dean Parata (London Broncos) - Hooker and non-fed
Lachlan Walmsley (Halifax Panthers) - Winger and and non-fed (could be an option to replace Sio who is also non-fed if Sio leaves and he'd be cheaper. Though I think Ryan may best him out of a starting spot and so he'd be a waste of a non-fed.
Young Player of the Year:
Bill Leyland (London Broncos) - hooker and Britsih
Aidan McGowan (Batley Bulldogs) - FB but on loan from Huddersfield
AJ Towse (York Knights) - Three-quarter and British. Nominated for the second year and only 20. Could present an option for depth and development.

This is a big issue right now there a big lack of props over here which is why it’s vital we use are quota spot on a prop. I like the look of lambert belmas and dimitri biscarro from Toulouse both big props. I’d take cozza at fev aswell similar to gerrard |

RFL gave clubs what funding they were receiving, then after telling clubs they dropped it! |

It’s supposed to be run as a business RR with contingencies, not knee jerk to every issue

The other issue re overseas players are th3 limitations/ regulations because of their standing in the game…stops a lot of possibles from abroad entering the game over here
Just to show the dearth of young props in this country..Leeds have got a young prop from Cas who was in turn brought from Whitehaven, was injured after he arrived, never played all season. These are the type of players we used to pick up…we can’t even afford to keep our young props once they’re here tho

I think reiterating our financial situation is pretty pointless. At this point, it's regurgitating stuff every Salford fan knows and I'm not really sure what the point is. Every club can be run better, every club has done something to upset fans, etc etc. That's the nature of all things. You'd think that we as Salford fans would sit here and continue the roller coaster ride and enjoy it while we still have it. In fact, we are the strongest we've been in decades, yet a lot of us continue to live our lives stuck down the negative rabbit hole. Barring a billionaire popping-up it wouldn't matter if you wiped the club clean and started again off the field in any formation of potential regimes and hierarchy. We'd still be in the same spot, struggling with crowds and money.
Modern RL fans are a strange bunch. The most self-destructive and tribal fans of any sport.
This is a news thread, and its dangerously teetering on derailment to the same old stuff we've read on here day after day for what seems like forever. Please feel free to start or continue the regurgitation on a thread of its own. I like not having to moderate, and I think we'd have more interaction on here from the lurkers if they knew every thread wasn't going to be hijacked.
