'Another strange fact for a team 'famed' for its attacking play has been a lower than average amount of tries you'd expect from a mid table side. 79. Only Cas and relegated Wakey were worse. This is quite alarming for a side that prides themselves on flowing attack, it just hasn't clicked this season like it did before. Compare this to the year before and only Wigan scored more than Salford. We've scored 42 less tries this season. That is a massive reduction, and a little worrying. It's not all doom and gloom though, our defence is what has kept us respectable this season. 512 points conceded is pretty good and there's plenty of teams way worse and some only marginally better. Wire for instance has identical points conceded. Difference is their attack clicked more often than ours'. A fantastic summary Carnster, stats do not lie and completely support my observation that Rowley Ball has been found out this year. The state of our attack as was demonstrated on Friday was dire. Our forwards stand still and do not run onto the ball, we never use dummy runners, have a flat line and pass lateral side to side. The tries scored stat is alarming and suggests we will struggle next season without change. I do not believe for one moment Rowley tells them to play like that, new signings and more thought on our attacking structure is required. Croft is ineffective at the moment and needs to be involved more. So to JJR and Dixon 13 our attack 100 per cent needs work. The defence is the positive this year, if we can cut out the penalties (King) and keep a decent defensive structure we will be difficult to beat, in some ways creating a tough defensive unit is harder than playing good attacking Rugby. So that is the plus for this season on the playing side. Glad its now done and we can get our house in order. Off Field we've grown with more investment and fans incoming so lets see what happens. Surely Rowley's not getting the blame because the forwards don't run on to the ball,Cliff Evans didn't need to tell Dixon and Coulman to run on to the ball,if they do have to be told we might as well pack it n now.

Agree generally with your comments about players MTR…Sio must be staying or there would have been a presentation, Cross to me not kicked on this year and may now want more money…yes Gerrard Addy should go, Sidlow Dixon…not sure what’s wrong but if fit could be ok New players….£350k off fans, £200k off Dupree, £100k off early season ticket sales…apparently last year we were struggling to pay wages….so it all comes down to what funds we have…I don’t think much…so 6/7 players maybe, maybe not…Ryan, Singleton, young half back from Leeds so far So the issue..the Club needs to raise money Don’t forget we had a £600k loss. No deep pockets to fund debt like other clubs and sports. Financially the club still has a gap to bridge. Selling players sadly will be part of that I’d imagine. This is not necessarily the case. Not the debt which all clubs have now but selling players doesn't have to follow.

Can't argue with any of that report. It's certainly not been a doom and gloom year at all, more of a missed opportunity type of year. Combinations of injuries, dodgy decisions, small squad, and a weakening of our attacking prowess has meant it's been a tough year on the players, yet they've given their all and maintained solid defensive work (on the whole). This is a far better foundation, in my opinion, than the year before where we outscored the opposition to hide that our defence was shaky at times. Defensive work harder than attacking as said above. I hope the players don't feel overly dejected about the season fizzling-out as we fans recognise the effort and the performances. Looking forward to see who the additions may be and look to assault that table next season. We're not far off being a top side, and it's not often I've ever seen that. Some people seem very intent on seeing the worse and if that's the way you want it, you'll find the evidence.
It's not that there aren't negatives to this time out but there are explanations, reasons why this is the case.
Some are obvious and memorable some like Croft being ill early in the season easy to forget, but missing out by a small margin from the top 6 however annoying is hardly something to require hiring professional mourners.
There's a survey question on LoveRL which team has had the most disappointing season and reading here you'd imagine we'd be included in that number.

I don’t think people are seeing the worst in things Russ; they’re disappointed. With the size of squad we’ve had some bad injuries, bad reffing, too many penalties given away and the forwards have seemingly underperformed a bit but our defence has improved markedly, in reality we’ve over-performed as a team…winning one more match than last season
Looking at the finances it doesn’t look as if we’ve enough money to buy big strong front row forwards and Rowley and Blease must try and work their magic to find some hidden gems.
The squads totally busted ( Watkins and Hellewell looked really bad coming off) but they gave their all and but for some bad reffing we’d have been in the top 6…so we all have our say/ grump/ moan but we look forward to Rowleyball Part 3 next season.

This is not necessarily the case. Not the debt which all clubs have now but selling players doesn't have to follow. Yes I agree. But what I was driving at was any income raised doesn’t necessarily go into the coffers but might just be needed cover monthly costs. Income generation still critical to success. What’s positive is that we’ve had another year of 20% increase in attendance. I’m sure I saw someone put on here the stats and that we are no longer bottom of the league for attendance - above Huddersfield and Wakefield which is a big achievement for the board.

Yes, 19% which is excellent. Though, before anyone ponts it's out on a negative lihht, yes half of that (maybe a bit more) is due to free tickets, the armed forces day alone counts for 6% of that 19%. But there has still be an increased in paying supporters and hopefully many of those on free tickets will get the bug 😁

That's a pretty positive post too JJR must be season's end!
The squad has been busted most of the season to varying degrees.

I don't know about our finances, player recruitment etc, I've trust the right personal are in place to try and sort all this out. All I can judge are the players on the pitch, everyone makes mistakes, ill judgements its part of sport, yes even refs. But the Salford players in my view when they pull on the shirt give 100% every time and that's all I ask for. The team is going in the right direction , and I would like to thank them all for their efforts for our club, Also to the whole backroom staff who prepare the team, again thankyou,
Looking forward to next season and hopefully bringing some new supporters over with me from Belfast

At the moment, although other sports have far bigger income streams, their debts are so far beyond what RL can even imagine. Soccer is the prime example and it's only because of it's favoured position that this issue isn't covered far more in the press. The ridiculous thing is their solution a Euro -League would just put them is a place where they'd accrue even bigger debt.
But you're spot on there are signs of improvement at SRD & across SL which is why Wigan are splashing out to guarantee their place & success level.

Wigan have a rather wealthy backer now Russ And that plays a part too and that will have been part of the plan also.
The closeness of SL has set a few things in motion along with IMG.
It's a shame all the possible backers for SRD are also the ones with little to no interest in the club, & I suppose that sums up SRD's luck.

Again easy behind a keyboard to say!so where do you look then jjr if it’s so easy?!the club have exhausted the area no joy even Fred done and your mate gerrard who by the way was never going to buy the stadium!do you think the club are doing nothing to bring in extra revenue?well I’m sure you would say there not as it doesn’t fit your agenda against the board!
